Not true. Dude, they're getting huge value and they want to compete. We're getting less talent but more capspace. It's a tradeoff they may do as they're at a different stage than us.

Hmm...A 3 way involving us, Cleveland, and Milwaukee? Unlikely seeing as Cleveland and the Bucks are in the same Division, but A swap something like this with salary fillers added could work for all teams.

Cleveland
Out: Varejao
In: Bargnani, Tobias Harris

Get Bargs to stretch the floor(allegedly) and Tobias Harris to cover up their hole at SF.

Toronto
Out: Lowry, Bargnani, Davis
In: Jennings, Varejao

We pair up best pals Jennings and DD and get rid of bargs, one of the leagues worst rebounders, and get one of the leagues' best rebounders.

Milwaukee
Out: Jennings, Harris
In: Lowry, Davis

Bolster their defence, get better inside.

We look like this:
Jennings/Calderon/Lucas
DeRozan/Ross/Anderson
Pietrus/Kleiza
Varejao/Amir
Val/Gray

pretty decent...put Varejao on their best post player so Val doesn't get manhandled anymore.

Jennings? Didn't we just establish that Lowry's style isn't good for the team?

We're saving 6 million. They don't really need Lowry.

I just can't see Minni giving up Rubio...Especially not for a Hog like Lowry..

Rubio is everything you want in a PG...

Guy has John Stockton in him

I'm saying they'd do it without it needing to be a three team deal.

Calderon is a good point guard and arguably the best back up point guard in the whole league. He definitely has value and interest from multiple teams. Now, it looks like he will be testing free agency and is likely to leave. I would try to get us much in return for him as possible prior to the deadline.

A reporter mentioned that Atlanta was interested in Gasol. If the Lakers like Smith and the Hawks STILL like Gasol, a trade like this could net us a decent return:

Atlanta Hawks in: Pau Gasol, Chris Duhon, and Aaron Gray
Atlanta Hawks out: Josh Smith, Devin Harris (expiring useless), Johan Petro (useless expiring), and 1st round pick.

LA Lakers in: Josh Smith, Linas Kleiza, and Jose Calderon.
LA Lakers out: Pau Gasol, Chris Duhon, DJ Odom, and 2nd round pick.

Toronto in: Devin Harris (expiring), DJ ODOM, Johan Petro (expiring), 1st round pick ATL via HOU, and 2nd round pick LAL,
Toronto out: Jose Calderon, Linas Kleiza, and Aaron Gray.

We clear about 7.3 million dollars of salary for next year and get a late first round pick as well. Combine that with if we amnesty Amir, we have 15 million dollars of space. Does that mean we have to use the space or amnesty Amir? No. It means we at the very least have options in the event someone is available (Paul Millsap). Some of you guys would ask why take a late first round pick? You never know what kind of player that might turn out to be. It could net us a solid rotation player down the road. It also gives us flexibility. I'd take that over losing Jose for nothing. Some of you would say why give BC space? You never know who the next GM is going to be. At least this gives BC's successor some flexibility as our pick is likely going to OKC and we're capped out. This also provides us with a pick as well.

Gasol and Chris Duhon ($3.5 million) for Atlanta power forward Josh Smith ($13.2 million) and point guard Devin Harris ($8.5 million). The Hawks called this summer to inquire about a Smith-for-Gasol trade. The Lakers said no thanks. They would probably be a lot more receptive now. Los Angeles Times
