I still completely disagree with that. You're going from the premise that:
A) Allen is greater to or even or close to the value Gay is, which he's not
B) That the Grizz care more about money than winning. Like all contenders at some point an owner decides to keep a core that most times will go over the tax threshold in order to win. Very few teams can do it and stay under with the exception of the Spurs - there you have players taking less to keep them intact - that is an anomaly and not the norm.

Regardless if Heisley owned the team still and i would say that is feasible. Pera is a different Billionaire, reminds me more or a Cuban type. If the Grizz have a legitimate chance for a title then that core will stay. If not then I can see moves as this team was built before Pera got there.

Firstly, they're already projected to be a tax team by the end of this season making the urgency to win now even greater. Gay is a better overall player, but you can't disregard that he's still owed close to 55 million over 3 years. I also in my previous statement mentioned that if they continue to win they will probably keep Gay moving forward. If they don't, like I mentioned earlier, changes are likely forthcoming and Gay is the most likely candidate to go. The Grizzlies are strong inside with Randolph and Gasol, and have shown that they can go deep into the playoffs without Gay. Allen doesn't put big numbers up like Gay, but his defensive presence is an important element in contending for a championship and letting him walk without getting an adequate replacement will surely be detrimental to the team moving forward.

Memphis get hosed, no way in hell they'd do that. lol

Not only that, but if they get rid of Gay it's to dump salary and they'd be getting two newly signed players for Gay.

Something realistic:

Washington gets Bargnani

Toronto gets Okafor & 2nd round Wizards pick.

First of all, similar contracts. Okafor 28 M/2 yr and Bargnani 33 M/3 yr.

Why for Raps? With Okafor we´ll have more defense in one game than in six years with Bargnani. We receive a high 2nd round, and he´ll be expiring the next season.

Why for Wizards? They need an scorer. He can be a decent fit for Nene.

Did Marvin get a new deal? I didn't know.

If he did, then it doesn't work.

i dunno, jeff, it's not way out their imo. Moving gay is a possibility for mem and uta is considering where they wanna go with their froncourt, millsap is expiring. But sounds like mem are thinking of holding onto gay now.

for me, it falls just short for either mem or uta, but an interesting one.

I'm under the impression that he signed as a FA. Was he traded? If so, my bad.

So Utah is losing two RFA's, while Mem replaces Gay with a cheaper DD.... it's probably not enough for either but I think it's worth consideration from both.

Ok,yea that's definitely a deal that makes the team better. Milsapp would be great as a Rap.

Bargs for Gallo or LKZ, AA and a second rounder for W.Chandler. BC should make a call to his old buddy.

At the end of the day the Grizz will go far with their frontcourt but as the Raps and most teams know, you won't go all the way without a stud wing player. Allen is a heck of a lot easier to replace than a player like Gay. The matchup between the Heat and Grizz the other day shows how important Gay is to that team - Allen wasn't a deciding factor. As for the urgency of winning this year, sure, that's every year for a borderline contending team with a burgeoning payroll, meh, nothing new there. My point is why would the Grizz trade their stud for nothing? Cap space and 2nd unit players were what was proposed earlier which equates to nothing imo while creating a massive hole on the wing. Gay won't be moved for just cap space, the Grizz will want a stud in waiting to replace him.

BTW I'm not disregarding anything regarding the tax, your assertions are most valid. I'm disregarding that THAT is more important to Pera than winning. I'm thinking Pera is more like Cuban, Buss or Prokhorov - he'll give it a go with what he has now.
