If he's willing to come on the cheap and work his way into the lineup there's nothing wrong with his swagger. If he was coming here thinking he's bigger than the NBA, then I'd be worried.

It's the swagger that made me think of Arenas-lite. And frankly if he can compete like TJ for the amount of time that he's in the game, then I'd say bravo. It would mean just one more thing for teams to have to prepare for. If he ends up being the only thing teams prepare for in his own mind, then it could be rough, but I have to imagine AP vouched for his character, and there is a difference in the games over there and over here.

He's the 13th man...

If he brings too much attitude he won't get floor time. It's not like anything is owed to a minimum salary end of the bench player. He's got to go out there and compete for his minutes, and if he brings an elitist or egotistic attitude (something that should be very difficult to do while sitting behind Joey on the bench) he won't get any.

If he's got a little swagger then that's good...he won't be content on the bench and he'll battle hard to get some minutes.

If he's a douche...well, hopefully he buys a couple nice suits.

Theres not really a whole lot to lose here.

Exactly swag - but he won't be sitting behind Joey for long I suspect.

*warning, philosophy nerd*

principally, we want him to be an egoist, not an egotist.

that is to say he can believe in egoism in an ethical sense (roughly that selfishness can be a good thing - the opposite of altruism), but he should not be a egotistical - entirely self-centred and selfish, an egotist.

as an example, he can believe that the best player should be selfish with the ball in the dying seconds of the game, but he should not believe that either he is that player or that he should be selfish with the ball himself.

make sense?

Perfect sense.

I think, for a lot of players, the transition from egotist to egoist is a tough one, and one that has been the downfall of some careers.

Every NBA player has been "the man" at some point, but there are really only one or two players on each team for which selfishness can be viewed as an (occasional) asset.

I would like to think, though, that a player coming from Europe (where the concept of "the man" is not as prevalent as, say, high school or NCAA ball) who is already a professional would be able to recognize that he's wanted here to play a role. He needs to practice hard and be ready to play when called on, but no one expects (or wants) him to try and do too much out there.

Obviously some players have trouble adapting to roles, but I would think BC and Co. did their due diligence on this guy and are prepared to believe he'll come in and do what's asked of him.

But like I said, if he doesn't, it's no sweat. He'll ride out the season in a suit.

There will be some minutes available for this guy, but they likely (barring injuries) aren't minutes Sam needs him to play.

I like the fact that we got a guy with experience, that can play either gaurd spot if needed, and we paid as little as possible to get him

I don't remember this guy winning a Euroleague MVP. I think he will have more of an impact than Baston, hard not to, but he's probably a guy who won't see the court often. It was obvious in my mind that Baston would be a flop based on what he did in Indiana and what he did in Toronto his first time around. This guy has never really been given a good look. I'm hoping for the best and I know at the end of the day that he can't be worse than Darrick "brick chucker" Martin.

Yea, I see him as a poor man's TJ Ford. However, I belive he can be a very good player for us, if used right. He can be exciting, but looks like he takes way to many chances that can lead to unforced turnovers and stupid fouls.

Will Solomon could be a nice street basketball player, but not a pro player in a team. He is just an average player who managed to change 4 teams in 5 years in Europe.

So much for John Lucas III becoming our third string PG.

Default I know The King Solomon

I am writing from Istanbul. He played here for Fenerbahce and Efes Pilsen (before). I watched him in many games and know him well.

- He does make stupid mistakes (sometimes in crunch time)
- He also does great things in crunch time too ( he wouldn't shy away using the last ball)
- He is very fast with the ball and he can pass his defender anytime he wants
- He doesn't have the pure shooters touch but he can shoot
- He is not a Steve Nash in terms of assisting teammates but not bad either
- He has leadership skills
- He is very ambitious to win every game

He is one of most talented PGs in Europe but I am guessing his personality prevented some highest budget European teams from offering him big bucks. One example about the character is that one time he pissed in a cab from its' open window because the driver didn't want to take them or something. He may get into trouble easily outside of the court but I think he is a better player than Ukic and will be the second point after Calderon. He will be very useful for Raptors because of his leadership and ambition to win. That is something they need especially in playoffs. Good move for Raptors.

Isn't it great?
Considering Ukic is quite good already, and Solomon supposedly better than him, and Calderon can't possibly play at the same level as back in the winter (see olympics, total zero)...
Then Raps have three almost equal level european style PGs

just kidding

He did what? Peed into a cab through the window?! LOL.

Obvious questions aside - what was the cabbie doing? Waiting for the final shake? Why didn't he simply drive away as soon as the fly was unzipped?

Yeah, Will's character was in question before he came back here. I think this is his one chance to clean up his act. Fuck it up and back overseas you go.

Did he play with Parker in Maccabi? If he did that will mean the two will already know a little about each other

Mike, obviously you know nothing about the traffic in Istanbul. The poor (!) guy obviously could not pull away because of the traffic jam. Just kidding ) The driver later sued him for that saying he had nightmares because of the incident. Not sure what he saw through the window hehehe.

Solomon has a long list of acts but the people who critisize him for wandering around from team to team should not forget that he won a sort of championship in every team he played for since 2002. He sure does have a winning heart but it's true sometimes he cannot control himself. One time he pulled of his sweaty jersey and handed to the refree after getting his fifth foul. In another game they were beating mighty Panathinaikos of Greece (there's always rivalary between Turks and Greeks) and he threw the ball to their bench at the last second of game. I am sure Raptors fans will have a good time watching him provided he can manage to stay on the court. )
