Raptors 13-31 The bad news? Toronto has replaced Phoenix as the NBA's new No. 30 in defensive efficiency. The consolation? I've seen multiple tweets about it, suggesting genuine south-of-the-border concern about the Raps' fortunes.

Raptors 13-35 You hesitate, on one hand, to say our Raps have hit rock bottom. On the other hand? They just lost to Sota after 12 straight wins over the Wolves, along with losing their streak of 986 straight games with at least one 3-pointer.

Raptors 14-37 From @derekgbell on Twitter came the reminder that our Raps -- doing very little these days beyond getting DeRozan and Amir Johnson some prime-time run -- have beaten Boston, Dallas, Orlando and OKC. Somehow.

29 (27) Raptors 15-40 It's been a lean 2011 to say the least for our friends north of the border. The Raps have a mere four wins in 23 tries in 2011 ... and those four victims (Cavs, Kings, Wolves and Clips) have a composite record of 55-159.

Well, Andrea Bargnani didn't play, and the Raptors' defense was still terrible against the Mavs on Sunday. So there goes that theory. Speaking of defense, the Raptors shot 52 percent last week but won just one of their four games, which was actually a pretty impressive victory over the Bulls.

I missed last week's spot at the bottom

30 (29) Raptors 15-41 Is Canada big enough for two Italian forwards who don't do much board work? You needn't ponder that one too deeply. Latest word is that Gallinari isn't available and that the Raps are not so hot to pair him with Bargnani.

26 (30) Raptors 16-44 Didn't feel good putting the Raps at No. 30 last week. Didn't feel right inflicting the sort of pain I know it caused our Canadian pals. Thankfully the Raps went out and stunned Chicago to ensure it was a one-week injustice.

27 Last Week: 28
Toronto Raptors (16-44)
The deal for Jerryd Bayless hasn't worked out and the pressure is increasing for the 6-3 guard to show some signs of progress. Put simply, it doesn't make sense to look for your own shot when your career accuracy is 39.9 percent, including 30.2 percent from three-point range. Bayless isn't a combo guard; he's a 'tweener -- too selfish to play the point and too small to defend shooting guards. In both Portland and Toronto (he didn't stay long enough in New Orleans), he's exploded with the occasional 30-point game but lacked consistency. One would think the Raptors are the best franchise to be patient with an intriguing talent who is not yet 23, but they also need a legitimate distributor like Jose Calderon to foster the development of the other kids in the lineup, like second-year swingman DeMar DeRozan, newly acquired forward James Johnson and rookie power forward Ed Davis. And even as an offensive-minded sixth man, Bayless is a poor man's Leandro Barbosa, who is also on the team.

Spot on analysis.

It's frustrating watch Bayless make the same mistakes play after play. Hopefully a light bulb will go off in his head sooner rather than later.

the man is just lost out there, but can you blame him for trying to prove himself in limited minutes? hes young, hungry, and wants to win but in limited mins hes forced to try things out of his game and detrimental to the team. hes a good player. just give him some more pt per game and he will be better. you can quote me on it, im sticking to my theory

Frustrating that we don't see Bayless from his days in Portland. Where he came off the bench and drove to the rim non-stop.
Or alternatively a spot up shooter Bayless, nailing threes.

This current Jerryd who tries to imitate a half-court PG is crap. Decision making fails him, rather act on instinct
And Triano should stop pairing him up with Barbosa, they clearly don't work together.

I agree. He was pretty good in some games as a score-first mentality guard. Unfortunately we would need him to be a PG who distributes too if he was to replace Jose, but he doesnt seem to be able to do that. He is trying, but failing. Maybe we could just use him in same role as Barbosa if we got rid of that chucker. Of course then he couldnt be the starting PG.

26 Toronto Raptors (17-46) (25) This team is puzzling. How do you explain a win against New Orleans, followed by a pair of losses to the New jersey Nets? The recent trip to London should be an indicator of how they do this wek as they play three at home this week against Utah, Indiana and Charlotte.

Hopefully, the UK youth only paid attention to the offense being played in the Raptors' two losses to the Nets in London. Toronto's defense, as well as their late-game execution in Saturday's triple-OT thriller, left much to be desired. James Johnson (3-for-15 total) probably didn't like the rims over there.

26 (26) Raptors 17-46 You buy the London factor with Lopez because his overall line was so gaudy. Bargnani? Twelve rebounds to go with 35 points feels like more of a three-OT effect, since he needed 52 minutes to grab that dozen.
