Default The Official DeMar DeRozan Thread

Figured we could have a thread to talk about how the rook is doing.

I know it's early, but opinions on DeMar after the first couple of games? I've been impressed with him on the break and how he crashes the glass on offense, I like that he has a nose for the ball. Still looks a little bit lost on defense and defense at times, but that will come with more burn. I for one think Jay should try to get him a couple more minutes here and there.

Anyways, thoughts?

I'm been impressed with his poise, efficiency and love the fact that he rebounds

Not impressed with the way the coach's and teammates on the courts are using him. Nobody even looks for him on the court, no attempt to get him easy buckets, he's an after thought out there. I also don't like his automatic substituion's where he is left on the bench for long periods of time even at times he doesn't deserve to be.
Worry that he might lose confidence and also have taken notice that they don't exactly tear shit up or play lock down D when he's on the bench

for a rookie I guess he's doing pretty good. He needs to work on his shooting though.

i like his effort, but sometimes he looks invisible which is a real shame. he could be like an igoudala/jefferson type player...but the raps are using him like he's a mopete just putting him in the corners and such...
no offense to mopete, but derozan has a HUGE upside vs mopete when he came out.

I like this kid....he has no fear mixing it up inside. He hustles and cleans up the glass. I was impressed during the Memphis game as he has this constant intensity.

One of the biggest issues with this team over the past few years has been the production from the 2 guard spot. No change so far this season. DD has brought even less than what was provided by his predecessor. If J.J. Redick can drop 27 on him what's a real player going to do?
He's basically lived up to the Jamario Moon comparisons I've made in earlier threads.
It is still very early and he'll no doubt improve as he goes on, until he hits the rookie wall anyway.
I hate that he's starting, but that's no secret. I'd have him come off the bench and be an energy guy on the second unit, utilizing his slashing abilities and putting the ball in his hands more often. Standing around out there watching the other 4 starters work while getting lit up by opposing starting 2's is doing nothing for him. Spotting up for jumpers isn't his strength. He's not being put in a position to succeed.

He's looked promising so far IMO. Maybe a trifle too conservative on offense.

I liked him a lot in the Cleveland game, I didn't watch the Memphis game, and i turned off the Orlando game when Orlando got up by 20, so i can't really judge DD's performance

but to echo Dann's sentiments, i am not and have never been a big fan of him starting at this stage in his career. I'd either use Wright or Bellineli. preferably Wright.

he hasn't played enough minutes and Calderon isn't looking to give him the ball, might be that he doesn't create enough space

DeRozan doesn't get many touches and when he does he passes them up. The only points I have seen DeRozan score are hustle points off rebounds(which I absolutly love )

He doesn't seem to force much and he plays with energy on both ends.

All you can ask for from a rook. I like what I see so far.

Well, he's 'starting' but he's not on the court when it matters so I have no problem with it.

I agree that he has been somewhat invisible on offense, but that's ok with me. The most likely way for a rookie to be 'visible' on the offensive end is to take bad shots, which DeRozan isn't doing. Defensively, he hasn't been undressed nearly as badly as I'd have expected. He's making some mistakes, but far fewer than I'd have thought.

The bottom line is that he isn't hurting the team, and he's chipping in to some extent - that's all I think you can ask from him. If that means he's 'invisible' on the offensive end, so be it.
