On #Hoops ... @SmithRaps tells me & @Paul__Jones that he thinks Dwane Casey is the man the #Raptors will hire. We concur. But we'll see.

Can't complain. What Casey has done with that Mavs defense is no fluke. The man knows the game of basketball.

next up, reggie evans re-signs. :police:

I personally think that Casey will surely help our teams in many ways, especially defence.

Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Dwane Casey has emerged as the clear favorite to land the Toronto Raptors' coaching job and could be installed as the team's new coach by next week, according to sources close to the situation.

The Raptors began the week having narrowed their search for a successor to Jay Triano down to the former Minnesota Timberwolves coach and Boston Celtics assistant coach Lawrence Frank. But Toronto has since zeroed in on Casey after interviews with both men this week, drawn largely to Casey's success as the defensive coordinator for a Mavericks team that just won the first championship in franchise history.

Just in to ESPN. Not yet confirmed, but I guess it's very likely he's the next HC.

Sorry but Chandler alone didn't do everything, I wish people would stop saying that...

I suppose them going from a playoff joke and choke artists to NBA champs without Butler was all Chandler too?

jeffb 06-16-2011 10:11 PM

If it happens i believe it's the right choice.

However things unfold, I think Casey is deserving of a second chance to coach, in or outside of Toronto. Hopefully the fans don't turn him.

As usual you're probably wrong.

On a side note, maybe he can convince Chandler to sign here??

Chandler is going to re-sign with the Mavs no matter what. Coming off a championship with a bunch of vets, he wouldn't leave that team for anything.. especially not for the Raps.

i don't think adding chandler hurt the defense is all i'm saying. our 30th ranked defense won't become a defensive stopper with this coaching change. the personnel is more important i.e. not having bargnani as our starting centre and having a guy like chandler. but it's a nice step.

Well...I'd prefer Frank but this cannot be a bad choice. How is he as a motivator? Does he hold guys accountable? I didn't have an issue with jay's ball knowledge..but the problem of not getting guys to play hard on both ends was a big one.
