What does this do to stunt the growth/development of Ed Davis?

I was expecting him to have a breakout season, but now i can't picture him playing much more than 20 mpg

doesn't seem like Coach Casey is too interested in giving him minutes at center, either.

I think Ed Davis is going to get traded for sure. We need a PG/SF and to get one of them he will be in a packaged deal without a doubt.

i'm happy with the fact that casey doesn't put him at center, it will burn him. he need to develop more. it's only his second year, and in a new system.
so i will give him time, and i think casey too.
he shows in the game vs clev that he is a good defender, so we all know what he is capable of.

if barg become realy our pf and jonas come next year, i think it's safe to say magloire will be here too. Amir as our PF/C backup is lock.
we can expect our pick to be a pf/sf one, so ed can be expendable to get another pick.
it's how i see it anyway.
and i think some team can be interested in him as a solid prospect PF in the futur.

prior to the season coach Casey was saying he didn't want AB playing any center at all, and through the preseason and first 2 games that's been the case, so I think it's pretty safe to say his days at the 5 are over (at least for the foreseeable future)

Ed Davis is listed as a forward-centre on yahoo sports. Can he play the 5? Also, I guess we have to factor in Val long-term as well.

ed davis is very similar to amir johnson.
Personally i like amir more.
Davis is a little undersized and he seems to have that laid back look to him all the time.

Is Bargnani a full-time PF? I don't see how his role is all that different positionally. He guarded Hibbert at times last night, and it's up to the opposing team to decide who is best to defend him. I don't get the fixation with being referred to as a 4 or a 5. The truth is that there are a couple of rentals that can put in a few minutes unquestionably as serviceable Centers. The others are going to face some matchup problems. Davis needs to learn how to best serve the team before he's asked to compensate for those ad matchups. That's actually an approach that favors him. And he'll surely find a good amount of minutes with this crazy schedule.

To me the most important thing to happen this season is no injuries to Davis, DeRozan, or JV. None of those guys should get pushed too hard. And each of them should be learning how to fit on a team that will feature JV and one or two other injections of talent.

At least he gets playing time. Just because he doesn't get starter minutes or extended minutes doesn't mean he isn't developing.

I still say that Bargs is the likely guy. He can net us more.

i am a biased towards Ed Davis as I was a huge fan of his even back at his UNC days and thus absolutely thrilled when we drafted him, but i think he has the highest ceiling of any player on our roster, and would definitely like to see Andrea get moved for a PG or SF before Ed.

IMO, It depends how AB plays for the first part of this season. If he continues to improve maybe ED is the one to go.

if you're judging this by the amount of playing time he's receiving, you'd think that they would be showcasing him, which isn't the case. if anything, amir starting at the centre spot is pretty much what i'd expect from someone being showcased.

First, let Casey have a season to see what he can do with everyone on the team. After that, see where the Raptors fall in the draft. Only then should the team decide which PFs (and players in general) to keep and which to trade. No need to rush into anything right now especially when there will be plenty of mins to go around this year.

Now that Bargnani is our full time PF, I still dont see Davis or Ahmir to get traded this season. In a season where its certain we will get no where but another high draft pick where we are able to get a PG/SF for next season. For all I know, this could even raise Bargnani's stock where we will be able to trade him come the trade deadline or during the off season. Davis has too much potential to be traded imo. He has all the tools to be a great player and he reminds me a lot of Antonio Davis during his prime who was also undersized. If he can bulk up and develop a mid range, Davis is golden and its bye bye to Bargnani/Ahmir

Haven't really payed too him much while he played, but from what I saw I think he looked kinda slow for a PF.

There's no way in hell they trade Ed Davis. He's on a rookie scale contract for the next season (next two seasons?) and he's only going to get better. Amir would be the one leaving if it were anyone but I doubt that at this point. If we're going to contend in the next three years the main players will be: DeMar, Andrea, James, Jerryd, Amir, Jonas, Ed and Jose.

I really hope we trade at least 2/3 of those players some time next season, before the deadline. I'd love to see Bayless shipped out and have Jose mentor a young PG prospect (acquire either through draft or FA); and there is no way we have ED and Amir back up Bargs and Val. It's a waste of talent and with the premium big men carry, we will be able to (and should) pick up a good player for one of these guys to fill a need.

But that's further down the road. Currently, I doubt BC is really holding any of our players out of trade discussions, but I doubt even more that he will pull the trigger on any trade involving one of the big men this season - especially Davis, the guy with probably the most potential on our current team (not including Jonas). And it's not like Davis hasn't delivered already. Sure, he hasn't been a monster in every single game, but the consistency will come. He is still raw and needs to bulk up, but he is smart/talented enough to take and make good shots. And he's an above average offense rebounder, which means that he's always going to get a few easy buckets/game.

In the future, I'd love to see Jonas and ED starting and either Amir or Bargs coming off the bench as the 6th guy. I guess it depends most on their progression and development (Jonas may still turn out to be a bust), but their ceiling is much higher than Bargs' and Amir's. Generally speaking, though, having too many young big guys on a roster is a good problem to have.
