Novak needs more shine
The guy can provide a spark like nobody else...ok outside of lowry. But when things go stale like they did, here is a guy that can knock down shots and open up lanes. Raps are solid enough defensively to have him out there. He would inject some much needed fire in the offence.

pzabby 04-20-2014 10:11 PM

yeah, solid enough defensively to cover up for an offensive weapon.. where have we heard THAT line before .....

Kirby 04-20-2014 10:14 PM

we can't get the guy an open shot, he's useless in our hands.

yeah, i hate when we have him out there for 5-6min and don't get him shots, he's useless when we do that.

Difference in playing the guy a few minutes (anywhere from 1 minute to at the most maybe 5 or 10) as opposed to the team playing a guy and essentially embodying Einstein's definition of insanity for multiple seasons.

raptorstar 04-20-2014 10:35 PM

unfortunately he hasn't always produced those 3's when you need him to , i am sorry but we might need another reliable 3 point shooter

Ball Don't Lie 04-20-2014 11:20 PM

You know we're in a bad position when the fan base is arguing that players like Fields and Novak need more PT in order for us to win, and that we need to change our starting lineup based on one playoff game as the sample size in comparison to the rest of the regular season.

lankganglia 04-21-2014 01:51 AM

lol he doesnt make shots for us tho, seems like there have only been a couple games this year where he comes in and does what he's supposed to

Blaze 04-21-2014 01:56 AM

Casey doesn't even put him in as much to shoot the ball but rather to space the floor.

Diamond Scorpion 04-21-2014 06:15 AM

The issue is exactly what Jeff said, when we put Novak on the floor we never run anything for him, so the majority of the time it is pointless to have him on the floor. I really like Novak, but I understand he is a defensive liability when on the floor. If he is taking shots and making them, I have no problem, but anything else is a waste of time.

MikeToronto 04-21-2014 12:43 PM

The issue is our offence in general, being built around one play, its relative versatility non-withstanding. Players like Novak thrive on the teams where there are players capable of causing defences to collapse in the paint. Orlando with Howard was such a team, and spot-up three-point shooters looked very good on that team. Miami, as currently constructed, is another example, where the collapse is caused by the wings like Wade and LeBron posting up or penetrating.

Until JV gets double-teamed or Lowry starts driving to the basket and passing the ball out, players like Novak will be ineffective for the Raps.

just4_raps 04-21-2014 01:54 PM

why not give him some burn when Teletovic is on the floor?
