Default To Be or Not Yet to Be???

Coming into this season expectations were set really high, considering we only won 33 games last season. B.C revamps this roster and suggests that we win near 50 games. Jay Triano takes over as head coach and implements his new system. While Bosh, Bargs, and Calderon try to improve their game. Fans, are highly/blindly optimistic and believe this team was destined for a good playoff run. 14 games into the season, and we’ve witnessed so much inconsistency aside from Bosh. Like Garnett (w/o defensive abilities) Bosh cannot single handedly beat teams night in and night out. We remain one of the league’s worst defensive teams and continue to struggle. I might sound impatient but do we need to blow things up or hope for some miracles?
Does anyone else think that there’s too much offense on this team? Every credible team in the league has a few if not one dude that can play great defense. So the real question is, do we give up some offense for defense, or do we trade reputable contracts like Bosh and Calderon’s for some quality pieces that can make some noise in the future?

Garnett doesn't single-handedly beat teams every night.

And this team isn't exactly struggling.

They do need to figure out whether they really want to excel at team defense or just try to win with offense.

This thread is a month early. Wait until we have Reggie, Wright in on a regular basis and Jack playing more consistently. Plus our schedule is favourable in December.

Like Garnett (w/o defensive abilities) Bosh cannot single handedly beat teams night in and night out. When KG was in Minnesota he suffered just as Bosh did.

You make a good point.... but Reggie and Wright aren't going to suddenly make Jose defend....

No, but they will add toughness, defence & rebounding. And isn't Jack supposed to be a good defender. 14 games in and wayyyyyyy too many people are hitting the panic button.

Maybe we should hire Lineman's and Linebacker from NFL to teach them good defense ; if they can do that Raptor will not only be 6th but 1st in the league to be good in defense.

That's the way i feel at the moment too...

There's this constant theme coming from raptor fans about needing to change, trading players, a sense that Colangelo failed.

I don't get any of that right now.

This team looks pretty good.. and i'm optimistic that we will finish where i thought we would finish before the season started (5th-6th seed). I mean did people really think we were going to be championship contenders right now?

I have to agree but I'd like some of the players to at least make it look like they want to try on defense. Just make a show out of it so I don't feel like I'm wasting my time watching them.

PANIC!!!!!!!!! holy shit we are two games below .500 14 games into the season BLOW THE TEAM UP!!!! WE ARNT IN 1st PLACE, BLOW IT UP! WITH A NUKE! FIRE EVERYONE. BC JT ALL THE ASSISTANTS, SHIT FIRE THE TOWL BOYS, ITS THEIR FAULT TOO.....WE SUCK AHHHHHHHHH!

This is actually getting out of control at this point. Honestly, being where we are im perfectly fine with being 2 games under 500. The teams we have played, the raod games, the injuries. We are in a fine spot. Shit last year it was panic button time when after the first 3 games we flopped like a dying fish.

PANIC BUTTON!!!!!!!

Grow up... when it comes down to it our back-court is useless at both ends of the floor. I just wanted to know whether we wait and see some form of improvement or trade some offense for defense.

We're not waiting for a star player to come off injury, and its not like we're struggling to put up points. We can't defend!!!!

point taken..however i can easily say this team is at least an .500 team even with this performance..we have a huge schedule disadvantage and by tomorrow i think we will be 7-8..check this out

Wed 28 vs Cleveland W 101-91
Wed 04 vs Detroit W 110-99
Fri 06 @ New Orleans W 107-90
Wed 11 vs Chicago W 99-89
Fri 13 @ LA Clippers W 104-89
Fri 20 vs Miami W 120-113

Fri 30 @ Memphis L 107-115
Sun 01 vs Orlando L 116-125
Sat 07 @ Dallas L 101-129
Mon 09 @ San Antonio L 124-131
Sun 15 @ Phoenix L 100-101
Tue 17 @ Denver L 112-130
Wed 18 @ Utah L 91-104
Sun 22 vs Orlando L 96-104

we've put some good, some bad performance game to game but in summary only memphis loss is a disappointment for me..we havent played any game against teams like washington, new york, new jersey, sacramento, golden state, minnesota..

none of chicago, indiana and milwaukee arent better team than toronto..

I think people are riding Nathan a little hard on this thread. He didn't hit the panic button he is just looking at his observations from how he thinks a playoff team is structured vs. what he sees on the current Raptors roster. Cut him some slack fellas!

I would tend to agree with his assessment. Yes we will get a boost when we get some of those bench players back, but we need some starters that can play D.

We have 4 starters on the floor who can score the ball and 1 random throw-in who isn't exactly a top notch defender.

Would anyone disagree that defense wins championships? We should have SOMEONE in that line-up that is a good defender. EVERYONE can't need help on D, you need guys that can handle players straight up otherwise you get torched.

I understand a Lebron and Kobe and Wade etc can't be stopped one on one. How many times have we seen a random scrub light us up? It's because we don't have anyone stopping anyone one on one.

Panic? No.
Looking for improvements? Yes.

I think every point guard and shooting guard has had an awesome game against us. Goerge Hill, Reddick, Maynor, the list goes on.

We're still missing Evans and now Wright, so there's our two guys who can play solid defense that you talk about.

Bargnani has the flu right now, and he played like it at times last game.

We do suck defensively, but at least we have things we're trying this season. In the last few games I've actually seen Jose run at defenders, though I do still wonder how we leave so many guys open in the first place.
