Not much wiggle room for Raptors
As per Grange's write-up today, we likely won't see much activity on the Raptor front come trade deadline time. But as BC alluded too last week, he might try another deal kind of like his Jones for Dixon one from last season. :face4:

I've said it time and time again - we need a guy like Artest, just because he brings everything we need. And simply because we'd be facing Lebron in the first round. Unless we want to be gone in 5-6 games, that deal needs to be made.
Garbajosa, Dixon, Martin and a lottery protected 1st in 2009 for Artest. |

I understand it is a process, but do you really want to see the guys done in again in the first round?

Well, if our franchise player wasnt invisable last year, it was a series we should have won. I agree with ppl saying realistically we arent a contender yet, so to make a band aid move is silly, but im all for long term move to improve.

The Raps weren't even close to sniffing the playoffs in his first season. ;) |

everyone falls flat on their face the first time the play in the playoffs. EVERYONE. especially when it's a team as a whole that finally makes it after a long time absent like the raptors did.
That being said, i fully expect the tune to change this year - depending on who we're playing of course. I would be against an Artest type deal. I don't see Ron as a player who will be here for more than a few seasons even if a trade would be made. He just doesn't seem to have the right mentality to be high on Colangelo's list. Skill wise he does, but just not personality wise. I'd rather not make a blockbuster move and just keep the nucleus growing. That being said, Hoopsnation's suggestion is pretty good, but i don't think garbo, Dixon and a pick wouyld get it done. |
