It should be obvious to Raptor fans that no U.S. players really want to play here. Yes they put on a show first few years of their contract to look good to potential teams in the U.S. but their last year of their contracts usually has them wanting out because they get no attention/fame up here.

Not really news. Most of the NBA markets can say the same thing. There are a handfull of franchises that have a real advantage because they're big, exciting markets where players want to be.

Toronto does have the added disadvantage of being a hockey city. No matter what, the NBA will at best be second fiddle here. The Raptors will never surpass the Leafs in popularity.

This is likely part of the reason why Colangelo has been so Euro-heavy. The Euros don't care as much that they're not on ESPN all the time. Unfortunately that strategy hasn't really yielded much.

Only way the Raps will get better is to draft very well and build a solid team with players who don't have much choice about where they play. Once they have a solid base they might be able to attract a tier 2 player or two.

How enlightening....
Milwaukee, Minnesota, Oklahoma City, Golden State, and so forth are all smaller markets then us and have a much harder time getting on the national scene.

Bosh is very popular in the USA but don't expect him to be more popular than an exciting 2 guard or high flying dunking small forward. His game is boring and he doesn't block a lot of shots or slam it down like Dwight Howard does.

When Vince played here during this best years, he was very well known in the states and his jersey sold well. His jersey could be seen in rap videos for example.

Sometimes I think why do we even have a pro basketball team up here when we can only get European players to play for us. I think Toronto just should stick to Hockey and MLS soccer where pro athletes want to play for Toronto.

Winning solves everything.

I think all you have to look at is all the flags beside Raptor Fans and see the future.
Basketball is not limited to Americans anymore and has become at truely international game.
But not getting American s is also not correct.
Amir likely had offers elsewhere at the same money and didn't take it.
JJ,DD and Weems seem to truely happy in Toronto and you will likely see Weems contract extended this year. Remember he can be a free agent then and you don't hear him crying about making 800 K.
I think Toronto will have a good mix and what we need is a leader that can cross the divide which Bosh wasn't.
We lost some early draft picks because of Zeke including T-Mac if he had of played him and extended his contract he would have stayed.
We lost Vince because Grunwald and ownership allowed Vince to be the GM and and allowed him to sulk when they put there foot down and diding sign Dr. J as Coach.
Bosh exercised his option then so did alot of players he ended up in what he believes is a good place.
All the luck!

The problem with that is, there is a big basketball following in this city and the fanbase is pretty big. Plus if the Raptors weren't here the only I'd have left would be the Blue Jays. Fuck that.

Uhhhh, yeah, our entire 15 man roster is all European. We only draft, trade, and sign Europeans.

its more to do with the organization and the coach etc and its commitment to winning.
I think one of our big problems is the coach Jay Triano. I doubt players around the league know who Jay is and his coaching background. We need a notable coach, someone who has playoff experience.

I agree. When trying to attract players all parts of the organization have to be attractive. We are still stuck with the stigma of Isiah Thomas and his fall out with the franchise. Look at NY, very few players want to play there and it is to the NBA what Toronto is to the NHL.

Winning is the major contributor, and that comes with good coaching, management, stability, etc. I think players find this city more attractive than the what the US media perceives.

Which is why BC should get some hard working solid players to help with the youth movement, and get some wins, hopefully have a superb 2011 draft to bring in more talent.

Lots of dudes love it here no matter where they come from. Jerome Williams was devastated when he got traded to Chicago. Guy used to wear Raptors gear under his Bulls uniform cause his heart was still in Toronto.

Not if we pay him, like we did Amir.
