Default The No-Look Pass: The Man They Would Call Stallone

Marco had a great run on the Warriors when he had a chance to start last winter, and in speaking with fellow TNLP writer Peter Kim, I was shocked to discover that the Raptors fans he’s been speaking to absolutely hate this trade. Why the hate? Not only are the Raptors getting a player that is a terrific three point shooter and a great energy guy, but how can anyone be upset over losing Devean George, a player who’s only recent significance is being a guy who was able to hold the Jason Kidd-to-the-Mavs trade up for a few extra days?

Trust me when I say that Marco, who is notorious for his resemblance to Sylvester Stallone (in a halftime interview, he once commented on this, mentioning that people tell him he “looks like Seel-vest-err Stah-lown-ay.”), was well-liked by Warriors fans and is a great offensive player that should be playing big minutes, which I hope the Raptors staff are ready to give him. A specific Belinelli moment I remember from last season is the December 26 GSW vs. BOS game last season, where Rambo helped the Dubs hand the Celtics their fouth loss and their first back-to-back losses of the season. He caught fire in the second half, scoring 11 of the team’s 25 points in the third quarter and making two clutch three pointers in the final minute of the frame to keep the rally alive and get the crowd back in the game.

On December 26, 2008, “Rambo” Belinelli goes big head mode, gunning for 22 points in a 99 – 89 victory against Kevin Garnett and the Celtics.

Raptor nation, think of how Belinelli is going to help your team spread the floor. With pass friendly guys like Jose Calderon and Hedo Turkoglu on the roster, as well as Chris Bosh being a constant double-double threat, Marco is going to have a ton – A TON! – of opportunities to sink the open three pointer. He’s by far the best option the team has at the starting 2 guard spot, a position Demar DeRozan is not yet ready to assume. Just as I hate this trade for the Warriors, fans of the Raptors should embrace this trade. You don’t have to take my word for it, though; with the season only a few weeks away, I’m sure many of you will soon be in the stands, starting chants of Rambo, Rocky, Tango, John Spartan, Judge Dredd and so forth by your own accord.

no one is hating on the trade. some people just misconceive that some people don't think the hype and attention he's received is legitimate. i thought the deal with great. low-risk high reward, but i've seen nothing from him that would make me think that he's worth an article every couple weeks or a topic every couple days. people's joyous attitude about him has actually grown thin on me.

As long as it doesn't take away from the need to focus on perimeter defense then it's gigantic. But all the talk of offense in this piece doesn't assure of me of that. I'm sure I'm going to be happier with him than I was with Kapono at the very least though.

What joyous attitude? Outside of me, who here has been overjoyed about him? I mean really, i think there is more hype around Derozan, Wright, and obviously Turkoglu before Belinelli. In fact in some articles he's been barely mentioned.
