Why would he work?

1. Everyone loved him. On a lot of the old tapes you see him taking trick shots with the players and having a laugh with them. This would only build on the family mentality Casey & company are trying to build.

2. He runs successful plays. Rightfully so, Jack Armstrong always commented on how Raptors would score after Triano draws something up during a timeout.

3. He can develop players. A lot of younger players had a lot of leeway in his system, and they preformed quite well. Bargnani, Weems, DeRozan, Amir, etc. Since our team is stacked with young prospects, I would think he helps them grow.

Leeway is exactly what this team managed to finally get away from. It was everything that was wrong with Triano and Colangelo. Bargnani and Weems went nowhere. DeMar and Amir got a whole hell of a lot better when the leeway went away.

Triano stayed with the team when Casey came in. It was awkward. Dumb idea. Forget it entered your minds. It will not enter Masai's. And Nick Nurse will be staying, unless he has family out there or something.

Why does this fanbase always want to bring back people that never worked out the first time around? Triano, Weems, Johnson etc....

We need to start thinking a little bigger and better folks. #WeTheNorth

I think triano would be a good assistant here, but, much like with carter, it's best to stay away from him. As soon as things would go off the rails, which is something that every team will experience in every season, there would be potential for all sorts of nasty rumours to be created and we just don't need that kind of shit. You know fans will immediately split into it's triano vs it's casey's fault, or whether we should replace casey with triano, media will start creating controversy even if there is none and so on.

save for weems, I can understand the other two. JJ was a good bench guy even the first time, he just appeared to have been a nutcase and indications are that he's grown up since. Triano clearly is a very good offensive coach, and while he may not be suited as a HC, he's done pretty well both here and in Portland. He's a great "Xs and Os" coach and would complement casey well I think.

It makes no difference whether he's good at developing players or defense, since he that wouldn't be his job. As an assistant coach in charge of offense, he would be tasked with restructuring our offense and drawing up offensive plays. While some will disagree, I think most fans would consider those two as big strengths for JT.

It would really suck to lose Nurse. I thought he did a great job this year under Casey, along with the rest of the coaching staff.

The one guy we can never lose imo is Alex McKechnie. Tie him up and keep him in the back room, do what you gotta do.....do not let him leave.

Swirsky was a great loss for us. Should've locked him up to lifetime contract
The only guys worth listening to are Paul jones, Eric smith, and occasionally jack and Sherman Hamilton

The post game radio guys are mediocre too

Testify.

My god ... people talking about weems need a reality check. Weems could barely play for one of the worst teams in the NBA. He's faster than eastern euopeans. whoopee. Like Jeff said.. move on..think bigger.

Posters just aren't that familiar with assistant coaches. It's tough to know their skill sets, that's why they use Triano. What they are saying is a guy dedicated to the team who can focus on offensive execution that actually works. Personally I really don't believe Casey understands his inadequacy in this area. Tim and Masai, please help us with this. The teams needs a good X's and O's guy who has some clout. Personally, I think Nurse did a great job and worry if he leaves. To me that signals that Masai brought him in just in case he dumped Casey midseason and put Nurse on staff as a backup temp with development skills. Nurse was on the front lines here, does he want to stay? That's incredibly telling.

Anyone know much about David Blatt's coaching style and philosophy?

Great coach, well balanced overall. Loves to play Princeton's offense

.... but only will come to the NBA as a head coach apparently... I think he's one of the better options out there if Nurse were to leave...

Masai did not bring him in. He was brought in by Casey when Masai was still in Denver. Then Colangelo was fired. Casey stayed in touch with Nurse on a daily basis while the front office situation was sorted out along with the inevitable question of whether or not a new head coach would be brought in. Masai explicitly said that he did not want to have his coach treated as Casey was treated by Bryan, with half the previous staff hand picked as possible successors with an open line direct to the GM. He wanted the whole staff in Casey's hands.

say that again? are you saying Casey brought Nurse and Bayno in while Masai was in Denver and BC was the GM? That's not the way I remember it. First off, I don't think it was Casey's call.

Didn't Masai come in May 31st 2013 and Nurse on July 9th, and Bayno on July 12th 2013?

Yeah, Nurse and the rest of the coaching staff were brought in last summer.
