Smile Nice Compliment Towards Triano

Recently interviewed at Summer League and Vegas, Douby had this to say about Triano.

Not huge news by any means, but definitely great to hear and who knows maybe this is a second chance for Douby and he can make something out of his career now here in Toronto. One can only hope at least.

i think Jay will have a much better season as he takes this team and makes it his team. with Marc I on the bench, I see this team looking to play from the glass out and focusing on team first defense. we showed glimpses of that last season, but didn't have the players committed to the system. Now, with a basically new group, this team will respond to Jay. He really does know his stuff! and he is a great teacher, ask Steve Nash... with Marc I to help the defensive systems, I see a much more consistant team this season, at both ends of the floor.

i just made a similar comment on the delfino thread... you don't complain about a team that is looking to hire you!! i like qb and his attitude, his play has been much better, i think we have a spot for a guy who is coachable.. don't you??

His next line: 'Triano is the best coach I've ever worked with. I realized that the very moment I saw him'

I went to a basketball camp that Triano led for two of the days and I'd say the same as Douby (although I didn't play for the Kings). I learned more in two days with Triano about the game then I did in the rest of my days playing ball.

Bill Simmons has made the analogy that head coaches are a lot like college professors in that 60% of the job is about having the players like you. If they like you and believe in what you're saying, they'll play hard for you.

I think it's a pretty good analogy and that's why I think Triano has potential here. This comment from Douby might be a bit of sucking up, but all the guys seem to really like him. Of course, the team's record last year was awful, but he was placed in an impossible situation and, well... he was a rookie coach. I expect Jay to improve next year with a full training camp.

i agree Tak...

Not only that but Triano is extremely qualified for his job. He was the only non-American that was part of the US olympic team in Beijing, thats gotta say something...

Haha yea, he's just blessing everyone with his compliments!

I think with a full off-season and with backing from his players, which Jay certainly has, he can be a decent coach. He's no Jerry Sloan, but there is no reason why a guy with that many achievements and such a great resume can't lead a team. I'm glad he got his chance, but he better not fuck it up.

Jay Triano - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm not saying he has rings like Queen Latifah, but he was a smart player and was part of a lot of good coaching gigs. You gotta start somewhere...
