Default Next offseason

I strongly feel that next offseason, we have a big shot at building a legitimate contender if we play our cards right. Draft, trades free agency you name it, we could hit a homerun ball. Question is where do we get started?

I just hope we won't gift any Draft Picks as always.

i agree. I think your scenario is obviously the absolute best-case but i think we have a great chance at being a play-off team and maybe a good play-off team.

imo, we get started by focussing on the players we've got, hope casey has a good effect on them. We don't make any big moves yet, wait and see who fits in the system. Towards trade deadline and in the draft we think about possible trades. We rely on a bit of luck and our scouting and we make another good draft pick. Then, we're in the position to be a good team and we look at one big FA signing. That one might never happen coz of players not wanting to come here. If so, we just concentrate on our young players and possible trades to improve our team.

Where do we get started? By using this season to clear the deadwood.

not really. Calderon is expensive, but only has 2 years. barbosa is only 1 year. amir's contract is never a huge number, kleiza might still contribute and is way less than the mle, and Bargs only gets paid $10 mil despite being a 20 ppg scorer. the rest are pretty cheap, and almost everyone is young. i don't really see much dead wood at all, and all of it is pretty easy to get rid of.

we only have $24 mil or so in committed salary next year if we amnesty jose and don't pick up the qo on bayless and the option on alabi.

When I said deadwood, I meant any player that just doesn't fit what Casey plans to do. The culture has to start to change now if they are going to overachieve next season.

Absolutely.

I'm really hoping that this is the season that we really see this team start to give a shit CONSISTENTLY about playing D and hitting the glass.

Well doing that might be considered overachieving.

I think Davis(First out of everyone, pretty funny considering he's the sophmore)
Amir
JV
Bayless
DeMar(when actually being told to play defence)
James Johnson
Kleiza
Alabi

Would be ideal to fit Casey's defensive system. Shouldn't be a hard transition, I can see them playing hard D when tought how to.

We just need the players we draft to actually play! Also a descent outside defensive and offensive SF. Not to mention a good pressuring PG from the FA i mean a big name player who can become a franchise player.
