Default Next 8/rest of January = our season

@ Indiana
vs Phoenix
@ Atlanta
@ Detroit
@ Chicago
vs Sacramento
@ New Jersey
vs Milwaukee

I think all these games are winnable. Detroit and Atlanta have good records but are reeling lately, Phoenix is really good but we're at home at least. These are important because after that we have

vs Orlando
@ Cleveland
vs LA Lakers
@ New Orleans

I can't see us going more than 1-3 over that stretch.

So if we go say, 4-4 over the previous 8, and then a generous 1-3 against that buzzsaw, we'd end up going 21-32, or 20-33 if we lose all 4 hard games or go 3-5. At that point you can pretty much lock up shop on the Raptors, we're not going 20-9 or something to end the season, not this group. If we can go 6-2 over that 8 game stretch and then 1-3, that brings us to a more respectable 23-29. Now we still have to play extremely well over the rest of the season, going like 18-12 but keep in mind it's likely we go something like 5 games over .500 in April if we're in the race, so if we can stay alive and a bit above .500 for the rest we have a shot.

So while our season wouldn't be 'officially' over if we bomb the next stretch, we'd be in really tough. The rest of the schedule after the games listed has 8 games against 'elite' teams and then 3 more against the Miami, Atlanta, Detroit's of the world. Even if we do well on the upcoming stretch we have a lot of teams to beat. If we bomb it, I'm starting the Al-Farouq Aminu watch thread!!!

Hopefully we can play good. I am starting to like the way Bosh and Bargs are playingso we might be able to take some games but our other players have to step up too. Hopefully Jose will be back

I think for all intents and purposes, certainly symbolically, tonight was the season. I hope and think they can still finish the season on a bit of a high note, but there are just too many teams they have to move past, and I don't see how many of those 8 games, five on the road, can be deemed winnable so easily. I'll be happy if they can just compete in as many games as they can no matter what the competition on paper, and start building towards next season.

Yeah, in the long run this draft pick might end up being a blessing. With Bosh, Bargs, a hopefully top notch Jose when healthy (or just Roko), you make a wing star out of JO and then get a bright young player in the lottery for the other position, and all of a sudden your team looks really great going forward

Did some reading on Aminu - looks like a Thaddeus Young clone. Athletic and super long and a terrific rebounder, can crash the paint really well when he makes himself, but just turned 18 so he might not be ready right away (though Thaddeus was). I think he could be what we're looking for

i like the way we're playing except it appears that the way we're playing is not generally sufficient to win games
hopefully JO and jose come back soon but when i think about them i'm not exactly sure if it'll make us much better as jose is a good offensive player but he will make the defense worse and our offense will not be as fluid as its been without him
with JO, i'm a big fan but i don't know what we can expect from him right now and with his status he demands play time which can go either way for the team, plus he could disrupt the rhythm Bargs is in and i don't know if JO's contributions will be more than his potential to disrupt barg's contributions
so when i think about it i don't even know if JO and jose returning will improve or actually make the team worse and its not like the team right now is even successful

Can't agree more I think tonight we proved we don't have the depth or the talent to get to the play offs. Better luck next year.

Alright... 1-4 now... the New Jersey, Sactown, and especially Milwaukee games are essential now, because of the 4 games waiting after. The good news is the Bucks is just about the only team that far ahead of use not scaring anyone with their play... Nets and Bulls are paper tigers... the team I'm most scared of is the Bobcats. They look good. But they're only 2 games ahead of us.

Anyways if we can make 1 game on the Bucks over the next 2, and then beat them... we can get to 1.5 back, before the hard elite team stretch.

we'll win next 3 of 4 imo. I think we could still contend for 8th seed, but i kind of don't want that to happen. I like winning and all but it would be better for the team to tank it while keeping games close and stats loaded...gives us more off-season leverage and asset value...not to mention more favorable ping pong balls.
