I see what you're getting at LX, in that it's just a piece of a larger puzzle.

The scoreboard itself is not attracting free agents to the Leafs or the Raptors. But it's part of MLSE's greater goal to be an organization that is committed to the best, whether that means the players on it's teams, the facilities they play in, or things like the scoreboard. If it's supposed to be top of the line, and the first of it's kind in an arena, then it's just something MLSE can point to as part of it's commitment to being a first class organization (whether that is true or not)

But I think that greater goal goes well beyond simply bringing in free agents.

I think the main reason why they're making a new one is because of the fact that the old on has been up for about 10 or so years now. It'll look really good though. I can't wait to see it in person at Leafs and Raps games.

Having seen them make fans jump up and scream in order to have Irish Spring t-shirts thrown at them, I'm very skeptical about this being done for the fans. Probably the biggest thing we've all missed - advertising and advertising rates. They couldn't even hand out cheap red t-shirts for the playoffs without forcing us to be involuntary shills for MacDonald's.

And really I am not complaining, yet. I do expect them to pay out something for the fans when it becomes clear that it will take a little tax to go all the way. And they can do even that without having to convince the board that the fans deserve it. Instead they can point to a winner bringing back even more money, with advertisers willing to pay even that much more for a little space on that scoreboard, not to mention TV revenue, and just overall long-term stability.

The scoreboard is not finished yet, but other reports indicate that the installation should be complete by August 1st.

Found a picture of it here, looks pretty sick.

Something is off there though? Ohhhhh, i saw the score and the leafs leading in a game is a strange sight.

NOW YOU'RE TALKING! That makes a whole lot of sense. I was skeptical on your original idea of doing this to attract players. But this one makes much more sense.. and is much more realistic.

the scoreboard is mainly there for the fans so they will get a nice big screen to watch and can attract more people to come and watch
