this new roster rocks, doesn't it ?

what a new coach and a new roster we get!

A. Carter : "confidence, defense, vocal"

J. Magloire : "calm, motivation, defense, example, teacher !"

buttler seems to be here as a training partner as i heard him spoke.
he will play for sure, but he seems more like a defense partner.
want to lead by example. he knows what for he is here.

A. Gray : "smily, confidence, motivation, defense, playtime" it's like he see himself as our starter center, or something like that. he shows some confidence during the few interviews. i like how he seems to appreciate being here.

i don't remerber last couple of years guys to seems so happy and so angry to be on board this roster ?
they have motivation, they know they improve this roster.
their experience (carter, magloire, buttler) shows how casey wants a balance team.
for one time, i think BC as find a coach who knows what player he wants and ask for them. and also they are reasonnable-price-investment for this team.

if last year was about keeper or not, this season seems about seeing what with a new defense coach they can do and reaaly see who is a keeper !

what do you think about the new roster ?
what do you wait for this team to accomplish this year ?
do you think half their victorys will be against big teams like last year ?

no

What are you guys smoking. Other teams are making moves for some big players and all we are getting is bench players. And I mean ones that sit pretty far down the line.

We are no better this year than last.

The only shinnning hope is the coach. I lok forward to see how they play under him.

I'm excited for the season. A lot of people here are saying the team will finish last but I don't think that will be the case. If you look at the roster and compare it from previous years, we are in a very good place. This roster is golden compared to the shitty ones assembled over the years.
In some ways I agree.. the roster appears to be much tougher, with allot more leaders in the locker room

we will still struggle, we know this already, however this is a evaluation year, for everyone, from the young core to Casey's new defensive strategies.. never the less I am happy ball is back

Shadowfax 12-13-2011 10:38 AM

yup, they'll rock their way to 12 wins

I'm more interested in the rock n the leafs locker room.

Oh ya the raptors they need to suck for 4 or 5 years. Its the only way NBA "small market" teams can win

powerfulpanda 12-13-2011 11:28 AM

i'm not looking for wins this season but i'll be looking to see if we are competitive. this season will be ANOTHER season for bargs to try and prove himself and about the growth of our young guys. also see how casey does in his first year (not based on win-loss cuz that's unfair) and who we can keep or let go going forward.

We're getting scrubs so we can tank for a top 3 pick. It's a smart move instead of going out and pulling another Kleiza.

Yeah signing a pretty good player (when healthy) 4.5Mil/yr is so awful.

Speaking of a rock. Anyone hear about coach Casey putting some boulder/rock in the dressing room which I guess is supposed to bring them luck or some shit? They talked about this on the fan this morning. WTF?

It's not luck, it's more of a mascot. It's based on a mantra called "Pound the Rock" that the team is using this year. It comes from a poem about a stoneworker who hammers away at a large stone a hundred times and nothing happens, but the 101st time the stone breaks - and he knows that it was not the 101st strike that broke it, but all the strikes that came before. Basically a lesson in perseverance, and buying into the system even if the results aren't immediately apparent.

It doesn't bring good luck. It reinforces a principle.

i like that.

So is there going to be some big boulder outside the locker room or something? Every time they finish a game they hit the rock? It would be pretty cool.

I don't know if they are going to hit the rock, but it's a 1300 lb piece of granite sitting outside the locker room doors.

i like this whole rock thing! it's merely a symbol, a focal-point that keeps re-focussing you.

i think this would be quite trendy with sports psychologists.

fancylad 12-13-2011 03:20 PM

are they going to be given tools which which to hit this rock or will they be using their bare fists? I would kind of worry about hand injuries if the latter is the case.

Just saying.

Actually, late last night I was watching some of the training camp videos, and I thought to myself... I kind of like this team.

Expectations are REALLY low, but I don't think they'll be the worst in the league. We finally have some size, and just like how I used to watch garbage time to "see the rooks/guys who don't get a lot of playing time", that's what I'll do this season - watch for progression.

I like the veteran leadership that's come to this team too, with AC, Magloire, and even Butler. I like the mantra that they're using of "seeing what we've got, this year", and seeing which pieces we have to go forward with.

Swami Beans predicts for this Raps season:
- Anthony Carter will have sharp words with Bargs causing him to retreat into his shell.
- At some point Jose, Amir, and Kleiza will all be on the bench injured.
- The combination of Demar, Ed, JJ, Bayless and Magloire will sometimes gel and be fun to watch
- There will be plenty of ugly games!

I do think the Raps are moving in the right direction though. Three years from now they might be a really fun team to watch.
