New Center Screens: trying to get 2010 All Star game?

Well im jsut going out on a limb here. Trying to spark a little mroe discussion since there is next to nothing happening in the NBA at this time of year. With the 8 Million + dollars the ACC jsut spent putting in the new center screens in that feature LED displays in HD which is apparently going to look better then most peoples in house HD TV's are the raps/leafs (leafes had all start game here a few years back) trying to attract some all star attention to Toronto. If they are i think its an amazing idea and would love to go watch all the activities and games. How do our chances look now that we are the only NBA/NHL Arena to feature this new, amazing technology.

i heard some time ago that MLSE will push for an allstar game once the Maple Leaf sqaure condos will be ready (the ones going up just infront of the ACC). Should probably be there in 2 years i think. so 2010 sounds right.

moremilk 08-06-2008 01:27 PM

yeah - I heard the same thing for the past 2 years at least. I don't know when the condos will complete, but once they do - it's very likely we'll get the all-star. Not that it means anything, since we won't be able to get tickets anyway ...

2010 it will be in Dallas
2011 it will hit London England
2012 it will hit New York City
2013 Toronto?

I mean this is all going by rumors but the earliest we could get it is 2013 in my opinion.

Where are you getting these rumors from? And why London out of all places? Would make more sense to play it in an European country with a good basketball league (i.e. Italy, Spain, Greece). So that would be: Madrid, Rome, Athens.

Didn't they already look into hosting an all-star games a couple of years ago and kibosh the idea after realizing that MLSE would lose money and that 90% of the seats go to corporate types?

I read that in 2011 the game is to be held in Naismith's hometown of Almonte. ;)

MLE is one of the cheapest companies in sports. A good friend of mine works camera's and sometimes replays for raptors/leafs games, he said an NBA exec came in2 the room once and was in awe of how they put on a decent show with equipment that is 10 years old, outdated and way behind cities of similar stature around the league.

So no, i dont think we deserve the all star game, until MLE can stop being penny pinching pricks in terms of equipment (and as a fan in terms of not wanting to pay luxery tax).

not sure about this - raptors were one of the few teams this season to broadcast all games in HD. And I'm not even sure they're using MLSE equipment, it's probably rented from specialized companies.

Im postive of what they are using, literally this guy is my best friend, ive been in the booth. Its like a blast from the past.

well they spent 8 mill on new screens, makes me happy since i jsut got season tickets this year.

moremilk 08-07-2008 01:12 PM

I guess it's possible, but regardless of the equipment, the broadcasts are pretty good - I can't say I see a difference vs ESPN/TNT.

Oh the ppl working there are all top notch, the NBA exec was amazed they could put on such a good show with such crappy equipment, and im sure the NBA was notified of the fact. I wouldnt mind an allstar game tho ;)
