Nene might be a free agent too

If he is going to be a FA after all, we MUST at least TRY and make him a good offer.

"The 6-foot-11 center is expected to opt out of the final year of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent, which leaves him free to sign with whomever he wishes..."

If he's willing to come of the bench in a few years to play behind Val, then sign me up. :dancing:

He is not gonna come off the bench. I will prefer him over Jonas as our starter C due to the fact that he is a proven commodity and 29 y/o. No surprises there, we can't really know how Jonas will be down the line.

You can't expect us to draft JV at #5 and not have him play. To be honest, I don't think we're going to doing too much this offseason. Our starting 5 going into the following season will be pretty much the same. We won't be making any big moves until next year when we will probably have another lottery pick and VJ coming over. Draft Kabongo.

Can someone please work out with Solomon Alabi?? The guy's a twig.

Bayless/Kabongo
DD/Barbosa
JJ/Kleiza
ED/AJ/Reggie
VJ/Alabi

Get rid of Bargs and Calderon. Try to get another pick in the 2012 draft.

Gurk 06-27-2011 04:16 PM

Didn't he say he was going to Brazil to become a pastor or something :\

Don Vito 06-27-2011 04:23 PM

Yeah.. I thought he was going back to his homeland to be a priest?

Yeah Jonas will need to play but I doubt he will be a starter in his 1st season.
the kid is 19, and to be honest I wasn't a fan of our pick. The Center position is tough to learn, getting someone with experince is a big plus.

why not? DD in his rookie year started the majority of the games at the 2 and he was the youngest player in the NBA, in fact he would be younger than JV would be by the time he makes it over. If he's the best player suited for playing the centre, then he should play it. Experience will build as he plays through games and plays against the best players (usually the starting line ups).

Does the current CBA expire before or after free agency?

the CBA expires 12:00 am July 1, 2011... so, before

so it could be months before the free agency period actually begins

merlin2049er 06-27-2011 04:58 PM

Thanks!

I wonder if the players are going to accept a hard cap? Regardless, Raps should be in good position to pick up a couple of pieces in free agency.

creative1mm 06-27-2011 05:24 PM

why are you guys even putting Jonas in the starting rotation.. he ain't coming here until the 2012-2013 season..
but when he does come, I do expect him to start, he should be more polished and a little bit meatier by the time he arrives in a Raps uniform

Shifty.py 06-27-2011 06:06 PM

question is, would you trade Bargs for S&T Nene? in 20 ms?
If Al Harrington comes along?

box92 06-27-2011 06:39 PM

didnt they say they want to ease JV into his role??

:yeah:
Thank you!! It's getting annoying reading posts that have 'potential' lineups that have JV in it for this coming season. He is not coming till 2012-13.

Absolutely not, to both.

Admiral 06-27-2011 06:58 PM

regardless of when or where JV will play when he comes, the goal is for him to be the starting C, so in the end nene needs to be coming off the bench if he is to come, we won't sign someone of nene's calibre if the final goal is for him to come off the bench

Note how in my lineup, I have Kabongo in there...that's for the 2012-2013 season. Hope to pick up another potential lottery for Bargs in the 2012 draft.

Ok gotcha now.... It was a bit confusing on first glance and never even thought about Kabongo being a back up on there. I was thinking completely along other lines, like a top level SF. IF we got another pick a bit later then I could see Kabongo but I'm thinking top 5.

I don't think the Raptors will be bottom 5 this year though (if there is a season)
