Well, the graying hair is what I was alluding to, but he seemed much more youthful back in the day... Aged more than ten years, IMO.

We should continue to post sexy young SMitch pics throughout the thread

I always liked mitchell as a character, but as a coach he was awful. Classy guy though, even though I'm not a big fan of his tough daddy approach to life and to coaching

Easily the best coach we've had since Butch Carter.

That approach got us 47 wins and got Sam head coach of the year. That approach will win you championships with the right pieces.

That speaks much more to his competition than to his talent.

yeah, right ... because you know, 20-30 year guys can only be motivated by tough love, that's why coaches like phil jackson or rick carlisle had no success in the league. Oh wait

and if that approach was so good, how come he's still unemployed?

You're telling me that approach didn't work that year when that team overachieved on their expectations? Jose used to credit him on making him anything close to a good player and a great free-throw shooter. That's true what you said about those two guys, but Phil had Jordan and Kobe who are self-motivated and have their own standards. Rick also had a team who knew this was probably their last shot at a championship and gave it their all. Some teams need those motivators and the tough-love attitude to overachieve. Hence Thibo with the Bulls, Woodson with the Knicks, Popovic with the Spurs, Brooks with the Thunder. And some old teams like Sloan with their consistent success and Stan Van Gundy with that 2009 Magic team.

I don't think Sam has a job now because there's definitely a decent amount of coaches like this already out there and he probably was bad at X's and O's.

Why would he want to coach again? He's a TV talking head, that can give his opinions and praises or criticisms and then go home without having to worry about managing a locker room, or who the next opponent is, or the next Press Q&A.

Exactly yeah I was thinking about writing that too, but you never know he might miss coaching and is waiting for a good offer. However, I think I heard a while back he wasn't planning on coaching again.

Sam Mitchell's a real smart guy. It's not Gay's efficiency - it's when he's efficient. Of course! 6 minutes or less left in the game, that's where he excels.

Of course, last season with the Raptors his FG% was .299 (3PT% of .200) with 6 minutes or less left in games, so maybe not.

and believe it or not "talking heads" on football (soccer) are even worse! Lazy comments, supposedly using their expertise (which they do have in most cases imo, they just don't use it to be properly analytical.)

I might have bought the argument he doesn't want a HC job if he didn't accept assistant positions in the past few years ...
