Default NBA's top potential secret weapons

Amir Johnson, Toronto: After getting traded twice last summer, it's easy to forget that only a year ago Johnson was considered an untouchable prospect in Detroit's rebuilding plans. As a raw talent who entered the NBA straight out of high school, though, Johnson never got the playing time he needed to develop in Detroit. Even last year, when he was viewed as an essential part of the Pistons' future, Johnson averaged only 14.5 minutes while contending with a rotation that already featured Rasheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess. Still, he has a freakish level of athleticism and a propensity for making exhilarating plays. Consistent time on the court may be all that's needed to get Johnson to prosper, and in Toronto he looks to be an ideal complement behind Chris Bosh. Keep in mind, Johnson is only 22 and already has four years of NBA experience. With a regular role and the extra motivation of being in a contract year, he could finally be ready for a breakthrough.

I think he's ready to come into his own and i'm hoping he takes most of the backup PF minutes behind Bosh.

He's got some nice tools on him, we're spoiled to have him as a backup big man IMO, but I don't see this as being the ideal situation for him to breakthrough. He's backing up two very talented big men, more talented than the ones he backed up in Detroit. I'm excited to see what he's got coming off the bench though.

If he can play D, block some shot.... You have to give him some major minutes.

Nobody beyond Bosh/Bargnani will get major minutes at the PF/C positions unless one of them goes down.

i don't see amir getting anymore PT than he did with the pistons because Bosh and Bargs will get the majority at the PF/C positions, then you have rasho and reggie evans who will get some minutes along with amir, and you cannot forget that at times the lineup could consist of hedo moving to PF

We are used to have Primoz, Jake, Pops or Hump as our first big off the bench. Amir is better than any of those. Minute management becomes secondary considering what he can bring.

LOL - Amir is totally being overatted right now. I mean he's been in the league 4 years and has proven jack shit. POB has just as much potential, if not more then him. But what are the chances they come out of their shells as bigs?

Very small IMO, I don't understand how the situation here is giving him anymore opportunity to breakout than his time in Detroit. If anything he'll be receiving less playing time as he's backing up two big men that are not only more talented than anyone he's ever had to backup, but relied on more heavily by their respective team. Very nice guy to have off the bench though.

I love Amir, but anyone who says he didn't get a chance in Detroit is getting it a bit wrong. They tried to give him more minutes, but he was very very foul-prone. Hoping that changes here.

POB is horrible. Not because he can't play, moreso because he lacks any kind of passion and never seems interested when he's on the court. He always looks half asleep on the court and appears like he'd rather be in Iraq then be on the court.
