Default NBA's nice guys turn nasty

Before Jermaine O'Neal was a Raptor, he knew the Raptors. And if he remembered one thing from those meetings, back when O'Neal was an Indiana Pacer and the Raptors were just another of the 29 rosters with whom he traded buckets, perhaps it was Jose Calderon's smiling face or Chris Bosh's polite demeanour or Jamario Moon's goofy charm.

Or perhaps it was the way one Toronto player or another would rush to help him to his feet on the rare occasion he happened to find himself laid out on the hardwood.

"They were a very nice team," said O'Neal. "Very nice guys."

O'Neal didn't necessarily mean that as a compliment, of course. And he hopes he has, in his short time in Toronto, imparted that opinion to his new teammates.

"This year you don't see a lot of (Raptors) helping (opponents) up. We're not going to do that," said O'Neal. "We're going to step over guys if we knock 'em down. And that's the way it should be."

Hes certainly setting an example. Too bad they give fouls for knocking people down

But I agree. Soft fouls with 2+1 must stop.

It's funny that after he knocked Charlie V to the floor that CV stopped looking so agressive on O. It's nice to see...

I like the intensity that JO brings to the Raps, and it's about time. Before we would knock someone down and help him up.

That was funny .... JO pushed CV like a rag doll.

We haven't had this much toughness since the Oakley days.

Why do you think I loved Haffa and Mike James so much Doc? ; )

They weren't afraid to get into people's faces.

And of course Kevin never helped guys up off the floor...... but that was because he couldn't reach down far enough with his t-rex arms. :|

It's not about getting in people's faces or being a bully. That doesn't fly in this league anymore. It's about making players feel something when they try to get some easy baskets. I have enjoyed seeing a little pain come along with even succesful drives to the basket.

PG Latrell Sprewell, SG Allen Iverson, SF Ron Artest, PF Denis Rodman, C Rasheed Wallace

Most gangster team

Honarable mentions go to: Charles Oakley,Stephen Jackson, Stephan Mardbury, JR Smith, Marcus Camby, Jamal Tinsley, JO, and Carmello Anthony.

Also there was Danny Fortson for those of you who don't know Fortson is a frequent target of foul calls by referees because of his physical play. As a result, Fortson registered the second-highest technical foul total among all active players during the 2004-05 season. During the 2005-06 season, Fortson's popularity and playing time diminished.

After returning from a two-game suspension on January 2, 2006, Fortson called NBA senior vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson a "gangster" for the nearly $200,000 in fines Fortson was docked for his latest transgression with an official.
