Post NBA TV Raptors Preview

Rick Kamala hosted. Steve Smith and Chris Webber were the panelists.

"International players, on an international team with an international coach."

Webber thinks Belinelli should start at the 2.

Absolutely no mention of Antoine Wright...Bargs maybe once, but in relation to Hedo.

Webber praised Calderon and mentioned his defense as one of the things he does well. Also mentioned how good Bosh's low post game was.

Smith is impressed how Calderon is a leader who fires up his teammates, which is very unusual for an international player.

Hedo was interviewed by Craig Sager. The only interesting part was when he actually called him "Sager".

If you've watched any of these you know they have a 'Secret Scout'. He liked our talent, but thinks the only way for us to be successful is to prove we can defend. Duh!

Webber predicts the Raps will miss the playoffs and leave.

Smith predicts the Raps will squeak out the 8th spot and Bosh will leave.

I don't necessarily disagree with some of the stuff they've said, but you can tell they really know very little about the players and did very little research.

Kind of disappointing.

I may heve missed some key points or mismisinterpreted some stuff, but I was slightly distracted by a nine month old.

It's on again right now.

I watched this a couple hours ago, and they all praised Bosh, Hedo, Calderon and all three say they really like Jack, Evans and Belinelli (Webber said he played with Beli and the guy can flat out score), yet they all said we'd struggle to make the playoffs.Ok, that all makes sense??

The worst part was the end when they giggled with glee like school children about Bosh leaving Toronto - "Sorry Toronto".

+ Oddly not one mention of Wright, even when they listed our aquisitions, Wright was absent from the list. Fucked up!

I just caught it on raps tv and was also surprised by the Bosh stuff. I think he's probably going to leave too (personally I think Bosh is gone no matter how well we do: he wants the media spotlight, end of story), but they seemed to take a certain amount of glee in it. If a star player was leaving another out-of-the-way nba market like memphis, charlotte, or even portland, they would be treating it very differently that's for sure.

Also, did anybody notice the slow spanish guitar music they played while showing Calderon and jack's stats? Come on, now. Didn't they have any flamenco? At least that's up-beat!

On the plus side, the secret scout seemed to be pretty positive about the raps, I thought. Having watched a bunch of these nba tv team previews, he pretty much rips teams when he thinks they're going to suck. I guess that's why he's 'secret'. The fact that he basically threw his hands up and said 'they can score with anybody, so if they get stops they can go far' was pretty encouraging, at least to me.

i used to love rick kamla's fantasy show a couple of years ago, but i don't know why they have him doing real-world basketball programming. he's genial enough, but the guy has stats on the brain.

how the heck can webber not know that calderon's defense is his major weakness and that Bosh doesn't have a post game? I mean I understand that some basketball and ex-basketball players are fairly uneducated (and uneducatedpeople tend to be racist/xenophobic in larger numbers), but aren't comments like this showing that webber is no longer watching basketball games and lives off his ex-allstar rep?

I havent seen this but Webber is definetly not a Raptors hater. I remember last year he defended the team a lot from Kenny and Charles in the beggining of the season. He liked the team.

It was pretty bad in spots. They all went on about the international thing. I guess that is an obvious theme to start on though, since we are in a foreign country and all. What really bugged me was Kamla going on about how Bosh hurt his hammy at a golf tournament and how he coouldn't find out more about that. Uh - maybe because he didn't, and there has to be plenty of info on the internet explaining the whole thing.

Webber liked the Raptors last season, because of Bosh, and at the same time he was encouraging Bosh on the air last season to get out of Toronto.

I wouldnt say webber was hating hes just a dumbass. It really sounds like he did believe that we are not a playoff team and have no chance to keep bosh. I dont know about the Bosh thing i geuss no one knows but him but were a playoff team for sure in the east. Rick Kamala reaction to chris webber saying we were not going to make the playoffs was pretty funny he was so shocked.

It was funny to see an American perspective on the team, but that's it: funny.
All three: Kamla, Smith and Webber really didn't know what the hell they were talking about, as evidenced by the Calderon and Bosh comments.
If they aren't even going to pay any attention to the team before these shows then they've lost what little credibility they had with me to begin with.
Interesting nonetheless if only to reinforce the "ignorant American" stereotype.

1. Smith and Webber are players. They get it. Calderon DOES play good defence when he's healthy, and he IS a great leader. He's the only guy on that squad to have stood up to the other "stars" in this league when they have tried to disrespect this team.

2. Sadly, player usually know shit we don't. Bosh may be gone, maybe thats the general feeling in the league and with his buddies. Who knows.

One thing is clear, they all hate Bargnani, and I can tell you why, he isn't a player. Not yet. He has great basketball skills, but he hasn't learned to be a player, to be agressive and tenacious and always aware on the floor. Intensity sometimes can't be taught..... I hope he can get through this.
