Default NBA summer league: Winners & losers

WINNER: Toronto Raptors

Chris Bosh is gone, but the Raptors might have found a younger version of him in first-round pick Ed Davis. Expect the skilled Davis to be a force for the Raptors once he adds muscle to his slender 6-10, 227-pound frame.

Swingmen DeMar DeRozan and Sonny Weems also showed their athleticism and versatility in Las Vegas.

With all due respect, how can you compare Ed Davis to Chris Bosh?

Nice to see some good pub for our young players. The new Raptors era looks promosing so far. Am I the only one that doesn't really miss Bosh, I'm excited to see these guys play this season along with Kleiza/Barbosa and whoever else is brought in.

Left handed PF that can rebound. Enough for the media to run with.

I am pretty happy with how the summer league went. I caught some of the action and i was impressed. However, how does this rank in comparison to that time we won the pre-season championship? I think it's right up there.

I remember Bosh in his first season with the Raps. Trust me, Davis looked much better in this summer league than Bosh did his first season. True, we have to wait for the real games to start, but so far, nothing I've seen suggests that Davis couldn't be like Bosh or even better. BTW, he is already a better passer than Bosh.

It might seem far fetched at the moment, but their numbers coming out of the NCAA are very similar are they not?

Ed Davis Stat Summary:
Season GP MPG PPG FG% 3FG% FT% APG RPG BPG SPG
2009-10 24 26.875 12.875 57.8 0.0 65.9 0.917 9.167 2.667 0.417
2008-09 38 18.842 6.658 51.8 0.0 57.3 0.579 6.579 1.711 0.368

Season GP MPG PPG FG% 3FG% FT% APG RPG BPG SPG
2002-03 31 31.0 15.6 56.0 47.8 73.0 1.2 9.0 2.2 1.0

I wouldn't say "close" but Ed Davis definitely has the ability to fill the void at 4 in a year or two.

He doesn't have as high a ceiling in talent that Bosh does, however, he will put up better stats with Bosh being on the Heat.

Davis has more athletic tools coming into the league than Bosh did coming out of Georgia Tech. Bosh came as a huge surprise to most people, no one expected him to be a tier-2/tier-3 player. Will Davis show the same commitment to getting better that Bosh did? Jury's still out. The tools are there though.

It's interesting, Bosh also came into the league as a weakside shotblocker which really hasn't translated at all.

I really hope that everyone gives Davis the chance to develop before we start putting the "next Bosh" comparisons on him.

He does more in the paint than Bosh ever did.

Think he won't have a solid 17 footer in 6 years?

I think he's a good player, and his dad will have his ass in the gym every offseason.

Yea same. I don't think Davis will be as good as Bosh but I think he can be a good player for us

I just hope all of our young players get a lot of burn and can produce, to show us what they can do.

In such a strong draft Bosh was picked 4th. Wouldn't this indicate that he was expected to become a great player? (which he has become)

Say what you want about Bosh but dude is an all-star. Yes, he's got flaws (stat padding, too soft, weak leadership skills, media whore...etc.), but I can't help but to wonder how he would turn out if he had the proper cast around him? But that's another redundant debate....

As far as Davis goes, I like him. He has surprised me with his skills and I hope he keeps working hard.

Why? Because Bosh is a soft pussy and a stat padded? You have to blind not to have seen him steal rebounds from his team-mates on more than one occasion a game. Half the time he didn't bother defending his man, just floated and waited for a shot to miss to put all his effort in something that comes up on the stat sheet.
