Should be a great first game.

I'd rather open up at home, but whatever...Philly is a good test in game one.

JayJayW 08-06-2008 09:37 AM

we opened against philly at home last year.....:)

Dr. J. Naismith 08-06-2008 09:39 AM

Let's hope Leo can get into Dalembert's head too with his presence in the arena. :evillaugh:

sam willl be to tired to pay attention from all the clubbing he will do the day before...

I'm a big believer on the "season opener determines season record". I think this is a pretty important game. I mean I know if we lose its just one game. we can bounce right back up next game with a win, but I feel that the first game will determine either a good record, average record, bad record.

OK, so two possible outcomes for the game, three - for the season. How do you propose to read these particular tea leaves? ;)

Personally, I don't pay much attention to early games. We've had teams that started bad and finished strong and vice versa, both in Toronto and elsewhere. Considering how big the changes are with JO and Ukic, I'd wait until about Xmas before coming out with any early conclusions.

JayJayW 08-06-2008 10:24 AM

well i agree with major....depending on how we put up with a new 76ers team it will give us an idea on how raptors will cope with a newer and tougher eastern conference...

Claudius 08-06-2008 10:24 AM

I'll be more interested to see how Philadelphia plays instead of Toronto, particularly see what type of shape Elton Brand is in.

Really? So if we lose this one and win let's say the three other meetings after that, you can honestly say that this ONE game will be of that much importance? Game one is simply game one, it bears no signifigance on future results. If that was the case the Vancouver Grizzlies would have made it to the playoffs at some point in their tenure.

Meh ... sorry Major but I think that's a load of bull. Only significance this game has is that its the start of yet another season and the hype is finally here. Considering both teams have new "big" additions to their respective squads there's also a transition period where players have to get comfortable with one another too. Some teams take longer to mesh than others. So, the first game in my opinion dictates nothing for the remainder of the regular season.

fancylad 08-06-2008 10:40 AM

Game 1 is about as important as game 2.

wait. game 3 is also pretty important too.

Major 08-06-2008 10:59 AM

Jesus Christ. You can say anything in this board. You say one opinion that's different from most of the other members and they starting getting onto you like you're from outer space and have no idea what you're talking about.

Calm down guys, it's just my opinion, you don't have to agree with me.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. Opinions are opinions. If your gonna give one, then at times you got to be able to learn how to accept criticism. Don't take things so personal. :cwm34:

Claudius 08-06-2008 11:03 AM

Problem is Major, you said it without actually backing anything up. Stop whining and just provide some facts. You seem to do it really well when the Leafs are brought up.

Acie 08-06-2008 11:19 AM

If we don't win the first 82 games of the year you can write this season off as a failure.

JayJayW 08-06-2008 11:35 AM

i dont know....i am the type of person that likes to see results fast and i know its wrong sometimes to say so...but ig its not important but its important to me...because for the amount i am dieing to see basketball (olympics are to early and i am at work when they come on) a game one loss would be disappointing to me! but i guess its only game one but its good to see a win never the less....
