NBA REFS Beat Raptors 104 to 101... I mean Atlanta!

All right when's Triano going to pony up and get ejected already? Take a bloody technical for heaven sakes. We're getting screwed out there... I'm not even going to go into the reffing...

Ok, I changed my mind.... Look when you're the team being equally or more aggressive then your opponent you should eventually start getting some calls right? (That's what Leo and our call guys would have you believe... ) but right now, the Raps are at the bottom of the totem pole and the League wants to keep them there. The last 4 games there has been a huge discrepancy in foul calls.

For you bozo's who go through the last games and say that they aren't. READ THE BLOODY FREE THROW SHOTS!@! not the total foul counts. Free throw's lead to points. Sure they'll give the raptors a few out of bounds fouls to even them up a bit.. but when you've got Klieza, Barbossa, and DeRozen, absolutely being malled and you're not getting any calls, while Crawford (whom I actually like)... getting grazing fouls? Common!!! Lets get real, and call it what it is... We're getting bushwacked by the REFS!
Today it was 31 free throw attempts for Atlanta and only 12 for the Raptors. (or a 16 point differential... they made 25 we made 9 for those who are curious) Not to mention a huge amount against the raptors in the last 2.5 minutes of the game. Yes Bibby made a great shot.... but it shouldn't have even came to that crap. Seriously... we've all talked about this on the forums, here and in the states... but when will someone do a true investigation into the basketball game fixing that's soo apparently obvious? (It's hard to even watch playoffs these days!)

Alright enough said!

So... here is why Triano should have taken a technical and gotten thrown out of the game. (as well as future games) First of all, when a coach is thrown out of a game.. it tends to fire up his team, and often put the REFS in a position to call the game at least more fairly, why? Well that's the second reason... when a coach gets ejected the league (and the NBA REfs association) reviews the game. Not to mention it usually makes sporting news. Heck if you go on a tirade of how the REFS stole that game from you... you're going to even get a ton of prime time play on regular loop. Will the Nba do anything about it? NO! Probably not... but if you can draw enough press into it... sometimes magical things start happening with calls, just ask Popavich or Phil Jackson... who regularly give their mind to the refs... (ok... only Popavich gets thrown out... Phil usually does it via the media.)

Hell, even Avery Johnson... has gone after the REFS post game on TV! (if you want to see a small guy get mad.)

Stand up for your TEAM TRIANO!!! I know there's stiff fines ...(which I think the team should pay for.)... but hell I see that vein throbbing in your forehead!... Let that inner Hockey mom out!

Word.

I will amend this saying at least in his post conference he did say... "we shot 12 free-throws up to that point... we might have a call coming...?" -Jay Triano

Triano called out the refs following a game versus the Celts recently.

Mark Cuban has accumulated a tab of over $1,000,000 for complaining about officiating. Remind me, how many titles have the Mavs won? Zero. And ironically enough, they would've won in 2006 if it hadn't been for poor officiating. So shouldn't the lesson be, don't complain?

Why would the NBA want the Raps to lose? So they can land a top pick? If so, I'm all for it.

The Raps had their share of dubious 'And ones' called in their favor. And Demar still tends to do a poor job protecting the ball in the paint. He's a fairly easy target for guards seeking a steal, or shot blockers looking for a block. I'd actually prefer to see more no calls in the paint -- league wide.

One thing about the Raps this year, I don't feel like they're a perimeter jumpshooting team. Our guys are getting into the paint as much as any team. So it's really too bad if the refs aren't judging us on how we're playing, rather than our old perimeter reputation.

They are 4th in the league in points in the paint, they are definitely not a jumpshooting team... at least not that much.

Its one of the bad things about the NBA. Its very subjective, and the REFs will call based on the name on the front and back of your jersey. So if a straight A student and failing student hand in the same essay in class, the straight A student will get a higher mark. Its doesn't make sense, a foul is a foul!!!

The problem with Jay making noise is that no one besides the hockey analysts of the Score, Sportsnet and TSN will listen, and in the end he will simply end up losing $10,000 for nothing. That's how messed up this league is. If we want to be heard, we need to have a fight, similar to Indiana and Detroit. (That will get us on ESPN's top stories for a night) and Jay can talk. Until then 99% percent of the league won't give a crap about naything Jay has to say.

I think Jose was the wrong guy... the playcall wasn't bad.... just Jose is not good at selling contact... it just looked awkward.

True. But on final calls of the game, you can't be trying to sell contact. You need to get a shot up and only if you miss do you start selling a call. Once Jose saw the brick wall of Horford was awaiting him, he needed to pull up for a J, or even fade away. You HAVE to get a shot up.

The only qyuestionable call i think was the one against Amir.. the offensive foul.
That was pretty weak.

That was actually Jose's fault more than anyone else's... he went before Amir was set. If he'd have waited for another second it wouldn't have been a foul.

we're probably blaming refs too much. mos of their calls were fine, but some were oddly really bad. like "clips" to the body without using momentum or body weight should never be called a foul. Jose got that, amir got that, demar got that, jamal crawford got that, but we're probably over thinking it because the game was so close the entire game

If you look at them individually, you're absolutely right... the problem is, there weren't many going the other way to look at. It just seems a little ridiculous.... because it's an ongoing trend that the league likes things fixed.

Shifty.py 01-13-2011 03:52 PM

The most obvious was the Crawford falling after Derozan clearly flew PAST him and WAY TOO LATE.

After his 4th quarter performance, if Barbosa had driven the ball on last possession, he would've gotten the call.

FoldedLaundry 01-14-2011 06:22 PM

Refs made some poor calls and they made good and fair calls that game. It was one game, lets not fret ourselves. Besides, there are games when the calls go in our favor too.

Admiral 01-15-2011 12:47 AM

face it, the nba is a star driven league and an established franchise league
star players get more calls whether they admit it or not, and established franchises with "history" like a lakers or celtics is going to get more from the league
face the fact that our team has no "star" and no matter what team we play against we're going to be the no name franchise compared to the opponent, who will also likely have a "star" player getting calls
