Default NBA Exec: Bosh Has All But Decided To Opt Out

Article from Newsday where this writer's sources believes that Bosh is all but gone from Toronto.

I'm taking it with a grain of salt, but after this past season with all of his "shameless" self promotion I can see Bosh wanting to take his show to an American market next.

Opting out and going to a different team are 2 different things.

Have no fear, Bargs will be better than him in a couple years anyways.........

These guys are douchebags. Quotes shouldn't be allowed without sources. The these guys would be paying large fines for this sort of thing.

Well said. Opting out might just be a way to create a better deal for yourself based on what the market dictates at the time. Considering that Bosh is playing in the East right now and the Celtics are getting old fast, this (staying with the Raptors) might be the best route for him to make some noise in the playoffs.

Don't forget the "great" economic climate we are in.

The way things are going (we are already in recession, depending on whom you believe), the revenues might be going down for a couple of seasons, resulting, among other things, in reduced max contracts teams are allowed to offer. If the drop is significant enough, noone would opt out of their current, more lucrative deals prematurely.

It makes a lot of sense for Bosh to opt out even if he stays in Toronto.

I wouldn't mind him opting out as long as he stays in TO which I know he most likely will. Hopefully

Everyone asumes that if you play in Toronto that the first chance you get you'll leave. It all depends on what BC does in the next 18 months to improve this team.

Gotta love that air of pessism that always seems to be looming over the fans. I have to admit that Toronto has been shafted enough times for them to have a nervous outlook when it comes to the loyalty of their star players.

he says that Bosh would have a reason to leave, but he doesn't say which one ... I would be extremely interested to hear what particular reason would that be. Surely it cannot be success, since most teams with that much cap-space will probably suck.

The only reason other than success is the opportunity to play in a large market like NY. However, Lebron didn't go for it 3 years ago, so obviously it's not that much of an appeal to being with. I think these NY writers severely overvalue their city attraction - when was the last time a big star played there?

The way I see it, chances Bosh will stay here. If he decides to leave, he will most likely part via a sign-and-trade, which will give him the max salary he wants, and us a shitload of good players in return.

Frankly, I'm much more concerned with Bryan leaving at the end of his contract ... Now that would be a disaster for Toronto ...

ive never thought about the end of bc. when does his contract end?

right now, things are getting better, so i see no reason for either bc or Bosh to leave. as you said, the only reason i could see Bosh leaving is for a bigger basketball market.

i'm pretty optimistic that he'll stay. with bc at the helms, things should just keep getting better. and we know that Bosh just wanna succeed and be in a winning environment. and he's got that here.

i gotta say that i actually am a fan of Bosh now after this offseason. he's improved as a player and has welcomed the leadership role. and his personality has come out. great guy! id miss him if he leaves. probably more than vc leaving and thats saying a lot for me.

Maybe. But when the shit hits the fan economically, people traditionally turn to entertainment to cure their depression. You can haggle about ticket prices going down, which is possible, but there probably won't be a massive decline in sports viewership anytime soon.
