Default NBA.com's take on the Raptors forr this season

The Toronto Raptors have been both a good offensive team and a good defensive team in Dwane Casey's two seasons as head coach, just not at the same time. When one side of the floor is working, the other is not, a good formula for being a mediocre team.

"We just got to put both of them together," DeMar DeRozan, the longest-tenured Raptor as he heads into his fifth season, said last month. "If we play defense, we can get easy buckets. We got a lot of talent on the team that can definitely score the ball."

The Raps are returning most of their rotation from the second half of last season. They went 18-18 after trading for Rudy Gay on Jan. 30 and were a pretty good defensive team with Gay on the floor. There should be room for a couple of new playoff teams in the Eastern Conference, and if they can pick up where they left off in April, Toronto will be competing for one of those spots.

Growth of Valanciunas could hold key to Raptors' season | NBA.com

I think we'll see JV averaging 15ppg, 9rpbg, 1.8bpg this year but more important will be the team's ability to, through Jonas, take advantage of all teams that don't have really good low post defenders. But the question will be, how do we defend against really good bigs. Good news is, there aren't many of those in the league.

Bad news is, the teams that do are contenders

Bittersweet news is, we are not contending.

Our expectation is not as high against the really good teams, especially in a play-off series. That is the bitter part. The sweet part is, once we lose, it will not feel like the end of the world. Which would be the case if we were contending.

I think if healthy and we keep the core 7th-8th is possible, but knowing us we are probably going to be more like 9th-10th.

but that's the best case scenario stated... is a 9th place finish better than a top 5 pick? because it's more likely.

I hear a train a comin', it's rolling round the bend -

Oh wait...just the constant whine of Thomas the Tank engineers. Sounds much like a bunch of three-year-olds with a Thomas the Tank Engine that won't stay on the tracks. So much constant miserable noise.

Let's say hypothetically we get a top 5 pick. Does the whining stop? Doubtful. Oooooooooh we could have had Wiggins. Awwwwwww. Our guy sucks and will want too much money or leave. Bawwwwwwww.

Winning some games beats being stuck in Folsom Prison. Cheer the fuck up.

Me too. I'd take a .500 team that works hard and loses in 4-5 games in the first round.
