Default NBA.com: Recruiting in Big D

Interesting piece. I'm just highlighting the Bosh portions of it.

Quote:
That's because this is more than just an All-Star weekend. This will be one big recruiting convention. At least behind the scenes. The full-court press will be applied to certain players. They'll be pulled aside, nudged, winked at, told how great they are and, above all, hear some serious sales pitches. And it won't be a shady character in sunglasses trying to seduce these players.

The recruiting will come from other players. Fellow All-Stars, actually.

With the biggest and most lucrative free-agent pool ever approaching this summer, don't think players won't discuss potential deals and dream matchups while in Dallas. Really: Wouldn't you love to be the miniature microphone on the locker room wall in the Eastern Conference dressing room, when Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Joe Johnson and Chris Bosh -- all free to travel and sign elsewhere come July 1 -- gather for some informal chit-chat?
Quote:
Wade and Chris Bosh. Now this is a conversation that could last a few hours. Miami has cap room, a superstar and Michael Beasley. Wade will not-so-gently cite today's temperature in Miami and Toronto. Or if he really wants to be convincing, Wade could bring his championship ring to Dallas and polish it in front of Bosh. (Speaking of temperatures, that would be cold.) Bosh loves the cosmopolitan feel of Toronto, and the Raptors are jelling right now, but does that beat South Beach, a golf outing in February and the chance to be Wade's teammate?
Quote:
Kevin Durant and Bosh. Bosh is from Dallas and Oklahoma City brings him closer. And does KD really have to sell the Thunder hard? They're only the best up-and-coming team in the league. They just lack scoring in the post. Then they'd be contenders. Bosh could help with that.

durant and Bosh will be amazing. If i was Bosh i will consider going there, he wunt be completly overshadowed by durant like he would if he played with wade. And Durant is young and still has so much room to grow. If this happens, thunder will def be a serious contender

So how come all these writers assume Wade is staying in Miami while its a foregone conclusion Bosh is leaving? I don't get it.

durant and Bosh would be a disaster imo
they are both very similar players, great on offense, not so much on D, and both require a lot of touches to be effective. Wade and Bosh would be better, but I think the best case scenario for a player like Bosh is a team with good defenders and a very solid center who can cover for his defense.
Neither Miami, nor OKC can provide that.

As far as the pitches, that's the most stupid thing I ever heard ... These players all know each other very well, and can chat over the phone all day long if they feel like it. This guy is writing like we're in the 18th century, people actually have to be in the same room to engage in conversation

I believe the article actually explores Wade going to Chicago with Rose. Just sayin'.

Thanks for stating the obvious. Who knows if Durant even stays there. Most NBA players crave things to do outside of basketball on off days and nights.
So, I ask again, what really is there to do in Oklahoma City?

So what I got from that story is that the players can hang out at a steakhouse or a mall or they just stay at the practice facility.

I dunno I read the article windex linked and Durant lives beside a farm. Hell for me I'd love to come home to a Farm if I were an NBA player. All that travelling and come home to a man cave, have a dog and your favourte OKC tail ready and waiting.

Who could ask for anything more.

It's not like the selection of women is off the charts here
I think they stay away from the women in OKC.

if you are talking about the raptors, and thinking they should sign anyone worth more than the mle on top of who they already have, this is quite impossible.

You can't just sign players at will. If you could, teams like LA, NY and Chicago would win every year.

Agreed..it's not that simple.

That said, Colangelo and his people have shown the kind of creativity and cap management skills that if they were given the go ahead to spend in excess they would likely be able to find ways to pull it off. That's what i like about him most.
