NBA.com: Raptors want to keep Calderon; trade Lowry

Though hes out now injured, the Raptors supposedly would like to put Kyle Lowry in a trade package and keep Jose Calderon. The Raptors give up 11 more points per game when Lowry is on the court compared with Calderon. NBA.com

who are those sources? thats ridic

How can we keep an expiring? Extending his 10M a year?

I think we took a risk with kylie (everyone knew he is injury-prone) and we HAVE to make sure he gets the best environment to work. He could be a very good player and for me the risk is worth the trouble :)

Dutches 12-27-2012 08:15 AM

Nooooo chance I believe this. Sounds like someone's hitting crack blunts.

raptor123 12-27-2012 09:52 AM

If its true its not surprising. You keep your best pg and its Calderon. Bone head trade in the first place for a 1st round pick to get Lowry now we are trying to dig ourselves out of a hole.

creative1mm 12-27-2012 10:33 AM

since when do you hear rumors from NBA.com?
I only believe if I see it on Hoops Hype, Realgm etc..

Raptorman 12-27-2012 10:34 AM

This could be a leak from the Raps to up Caldys value.

'trane 12-27-2012 10:37 AM

if they trade lowry and keep jose i'm done as a raptors fan. this team has absolutely no long term vision.

Nyall 12-27-2012 10:48 AM

Good. We never should have gone after Lowry in the first place. A new SF should have been our objective..

I have to agree with this. To continue with a losing formula and extend this pylon might do it for me as well. I don't see them trading Lowry though unless they can get a legit SF, if so i hope they just let Calderon expire and he signs somewhere else.

It makes no sense to me that we don't trade and expiring player that has asked to be traded....based on 5 games? The guy was playing awful prior to that stretch. It's not like this guy hasn't been up and down his whole career. He'd probably be on his 3rd team by now if not for MJ a couple years ago.

Key word: supposedly- This is just a hypothetical theory from NBA.com.

yup, I'll certainly be more distant for the near future.

Would be a total step backwards for this team.

Do you have any proof that Jose actually asked to be traded?

Awful? He was coming off the bench playing garbage minutes.. and even still was averaging 7 assists per game..

The irony is that this actually applies to Lowry.. well not really, he might actually end up on his 4th team soon..

At best a lateral move. It would be depressing if this happens imo.

Scully 12-27-2012 12:20 PM

The only way I agree with this happening is if Lowry is the box we put Bargs in to move him.

It will be pretty upsetting. That means that almost every marquee acquisition by Colangelo in the last 3-5 years was either abandoned too early or a huge mistake relatively quickly. Lowry hasn't really had a chance to build chemistry with teammates and play healthy. I have concerns with how he has played but the fickleness of this team and it's fans is getting ridiculous. The only players that fans seem to universally like are "good guys" who never win, and role players who are forced to start because the team has no talent on the wings.

Meanwhile, we know exactly what the Raptors get with Calderon. I can't believe people will comment that Lowry is injury prone without talking about how much the Raps suffered due to Calderon's hamstrings.

Zalgiris 12-27-2012 02:03 PM

at the start of a season when Lowry was fully healthy, we went like 10 straight games losing by 2-3 points to teams that are really good, no one was destroying us. now that we won against some crappy teams 5 times in a row and jose had a decent run it doesn't mean a jack's stash! Lowry was playing with JV/Bargs/Fields on court, guys that we'ren't making their shots (maybe except for JV, Bargs shots are only made by himself, unasisted, Fields wasn't able to hold ball in hands). And yet we we're neck to neck every night.
Now when Jose plays with Amir, Davis, Kleiza/Anderson whatever, guys that are team players and they make PG's passes into assists. So that's much easier for Jose to get good stats, and yet they're not even that good as Lowry's was at the start of a season.
Look back at the game we played November with Lowry against Spurs, that we had to win, but lost after 2OTs and the game we played the other day, lost by a million points without Lowry. I just must ask this: who of you are older than 22 years? Because this "new day new hero" thing is kids thing, adults don't act like that :dead:

Where is the facepalm smilie when you need it.

Stonezz 12-27-2012 02:21 PM

If this happens we better be getting a stud at the SF position otherwise I'm done.
