NBA.com: The meek appear to be rising

Quote:
We understand 2010 is just three days old, but have you noticed the teams surging in the Eastern Conference? Folks are talking

One by one the meek appear to be rising.

Teams in places like Toronto and New York, Chicago and even Charlotte have all decided that enough is quite simply enough.

Why sit out of the Eastern Conference postseason chase when you don't have to?

Just look at what went on Sunday night around the NBA, when the Bobcats won in Cleveland, the Knicks routed the Pacers, the Raptors popped the Spurs and the 76ers knocked off the (wounded) Nuggets.
If the playoffs started tonight the Raptors (6th), Bulls (7th) and Bobcats (8th) would all be in the east's Elite Eight (the Knicks are in the 10th spot), supplanting outfits like the Bucks, Wizards and Pistons for that precious second-tier real estate.

Sure, you're laughing at teams scratching and clawing their way to occupy the bottom slots in the playoff race, where a winning record isn't always required for entry. But it's not funny. You've got to start somewhere. And I applaud those teams that take serious the challenge of rising up from their own self-inflicted, sub-standard ashes to fight for a spot.

And the meek shall inherit the first-round exit?

Unless the Heat and the Raps go on some crazy run which drops the Hawks to 6th place we won't mkae it outta the first round but hopefully we put up a challenge against the top 4 teams right now. 7 games will be good

Depending on what happens by the trade deadline. If we're still around .500 BC might make a tweek that might add something missing that helps us compete better, like a defensive SG?? Still 47 games remaining....that's alot of ball to be played.

The exceptionally bad play by the bottom of the East couldn't continue at that pace.

The teams just are not THAT bad!

Right now it looks like ATL vs. Miami might be the only first round series in east to have any chance of going either way. But there is still half a season to go and trade deadline to come. Im sure somethings will change. It could be trades, some team going on a run or another (maybe Atlanta) getting out of rhythm, or just injuries to key players to one of those top teams. Unless the last one happens, Im sure the top three will keep their positions though, but after that I think its still quit open.

Miami would get smoked in a series vs Atlanta (as we would), even after last night which means fuck all.

No way, when playoffs come if Miami is facing Atlanta, it's bye bye Miami.

Well Miami just proved they can beat Atlanta. And Atlanta seems to be struggling lately. I actually think they are not in the same league as the top three teams. More like in the league of Miami and maybe Raps. Also Miami has a style lot better suited for play off basketball and they have a star player in Wade giving them big advantage.

Im not saying Atlanta wouldnt be the favorite, but that matchup is more than likely to go for atleast six games, whereas Boston/Orlando/Cleveland against Raps/Chicago/Bobcats/NY/Bucks is more than likely to be over in five.

I'd love to get Thabo Sefaloosha from OKC. Too bad we have nothing to offer them for him...

But I don't know, the biggest problem with the Raps isn't talent, it's consistent effort and energy. I think we can beat any team, or at least stay with one, if we play to our potential. We just haven't been doing it consistently. A minor tweak might help at the deadline, but what we need most of all is just heart and cohesion. Hopefully as the season ages, we will get better and better. I'd love for us to come out fired up in Orlando and take one from Magic, then we can really start turning some heads.
