Wink National Post: O'Bryant Eager to Prove His Worth

Quote:
For O'Bryant, who entered the draft after just two years at Bradley University, the education is ongoing.

"I didn't know what coaches expected out of me or know what I had to work towards," he said of his first two NBA stops. "I was working on everything."

It seemed things would be easier when O'Bryant led little-known Bradley to the Sweet Sixteen during the 2006 NCAA tournament. He averaged 14.7 points and 10.3 rebounds in three games, including upsets of No. 4 Kansas and No. 5 Pittsburgh.

The 7-footer may have been unpolished, and there were questions of how he would stack up against players of his own stature, but he had something that teams could not teach -- size. Golden State made him a first-round pick that summer. His critics have suggested O'Bryant could have used more time in a college setting to develop his all-around game. And while you could make a laundry list of players who left college early -- or skipped it entirely --only to fizzle in the NBA, O'Bryant is not second-guessing himself.

"They might be right, they might be wrong. [A longer college career] didn't happen so we'll never know," he said. "I'm just working hard every day. There is more of a learning curve for me, I guess."

It's just simple things that are frustrating with this guy. I'm watching one offensive possession last night, he's in the low block, away from the ball, the post on ball side (I think it was Amir) did a simple screen away. POB left early first of all...and second it took him what seemed to be an eternity to cross the key. He did everything in his power to make sure that he didn't rub shoulders with anyone. Stepped away from the defender and gave up any good position that he may have been able to get. I get mad at my high school players for soft plays like that...This is an NBA center. He needs to act like one.

IF POB is trying to prove his worth, he should have showed up to camp in better shape!

POB could only play 24 minutes per game in college and he admitted that he was still easily winded in training camp this year!

Just how many more chances does this guy think he's going to get after this season!

I agree...when you go to the ACC, watch POB in the warm-ups before the game. If he has the same type of preparation before the game as with his workouts, strengthing & conditioning, you have the answer for his lame ass career. POB is the second coming of Loren Woods.

Biggest problem with Patrick is the fact he's not very athletic. He's Forest Gump in leg braces. His vertical leap is all of 2 1/2" and that's on a very good day. When they were giving out hearts, Patrick was given an anchor. Conditioning and heart play a part and certainly he seems lacking there, but i still don't think he will amount to much more than a bench scrub anyways. If he was 3" shorter, he wouldn't have even gotten a look, by NBA scouts.

Exactly. He's just not an aggresive person.
