Nathan Jawai

Lost in all the Jermaine O'Neal buzz was the 41st pick in the draft which the Raptors now own the rights to. The man they chose to select is the 6'10" 282lbs Austrailian beast Nathan Jawai. As ESPN said he:

looks like a bigger version of Elton Brand. Even though he's wide, he's pretty quick on his feet. He was a player in Australia, but it's a big leap to the NBA.

So assuming he makes the club this season, which I think he will due to the loss of Rasho and Jorge, there is going to be a couple big boys playing in the paint for Toronto. Jawai is massive and I don't think the Raptors have ever had a bigger player on their roster.

I hope your right, but I have no expectations at this point for Nathan. If he makes it, good for him but I just don't see it unless like you said in the other thread, the Raptors start him in the D-League immediately. If not, stay overseas and at least play instead of potentially rotting at the end of the bench. :(

I hope he makes it so he can make Bargs jealous with his post moves. This guy shoots most of his shots in the paint, meaning high percentage shots.

The thing is that he's not going to get the competition he needs to push him to better in Australia and I don't think his game fits Euro ball because he's not a good jump shooter. He's a post up guy and thats really not a big part of offensive schemes over there. I hope he's brought over, sent to D-league and maybe called up a few times to fill in for injuries.

They're probably going to stash him in Europe or leave him in Australia for a couple of years.

I would think the same but if the raps dont fill the roster they will have to bring him over to fill the roster space

I'm sure BC can sign a live warm body in to the minimum to fill out space.
Jawai is not coming here this year.

No this guys going to be like Glen Big Baby Davis.
Id say let him polish his game in the d-league for his first season, if a injury comes up to any of our bigs, move him up in the rotation!
Put some pressure on Hump and Bargs

I think the only way they feel pressure from Jawai is by beating him to the "all you can eat" buffet line at Denny's. ;)

Kuzzy 06-27-2008 05:30 PM

Lool he looks like a tough dude

LX 06-27-2008 05:33 PM

I think with the space available, it would be nice for him to pay some D-league as well as getting in some games for the Raps, and maybe going back and forth as need be.

Kuzzy 06-27-2008 05:35 PM

yeah exactly
his game isnt suitable for the EuroLeague
Keep him in America and let him get used to bigger and stronger athletes

pencilcrayon 06-27-2008 07:52 PM

Actually I think Jawai could compliment the bench.
You start O'Neal and Bosh.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but Bargs could slip to the 4 spot which i believe is more realistic for his style of play and can play along side O'neal or Jawai as JO's backup. Bargs stretching the D would make Jawai a big threat in the post, and that would just be our bench.

And the best part about it is if JO is ever injured, we have insurance in Jawai.
Now that Bargs can turn into a 4, we have another player we can offer in Hump.

Just my 2 cents :haha:

I think BC should bring him to Toronto and put him the D-League 'cause he will develop better here then in the Euro League or in Australia
