Default "This is my team." Jose Calderon

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh Nooooooooo !!!!!

Once again Calderon showing everyone that hes the guy and its his team......we make a few changes in the line up and add some new guys and all of a sudden Calderon posting allstar numbers. The internet and tweeter birds and media are running with it. Calderon another Raptor record with 2 triple doubles in the same season.

It always amazes me when I check out the NBA standings and see the Raptors near the bottom of the Eastern Conference. I mean, I knew they were struggling, but I just canít believe this team is 6-19. And even though many picked them to be a Playoff team this season, it doesnít look like that is going to happen at this rate, but who knows. Maybe when Bargnani gets back, heíll find his shooting stroke again. Or maybe Kyle Lowry will actually be able to play 10 consecutive games without sustaining an injury. But one thing that is for sure is Jose Calderon will be working his ass off, especially now that he has taken it upon himself to turn this team around.

ďI made up my mind, I want to be the guy, Iím here, this is my team,Ē said the eight-year vet, the longest-serving player on the roster.

ďIím going to go out there and be the guy asking for nothing. I want to win with this team until somebody says something different, it doesnít matter how long Iím on the court, it doesnít matter how many minutes I play, Iím here to help my teammates and help this team win games.Ē

ďAt some point you have to start having fun and try to play basketball and not worry about every mistake you make,Ē said Calderon, who helped ice the game with five clutch free throws in the final minute.

ďI think thatís the turnaround, thatís what we talk about, just being a team, helping each other, sharing the ball. You make a mistake? Youíre good. Go back on defence or if you make a mistake on defence, weíve got you, get the next one.

ďBut you have help, you feel your teammates are behind you if you make a mistake.Ē

As a sub this season, Jose Calderon is averaging 8 points and 4 assists per game on 40/40/95 shooting. As a starter, heís averaging 13.2 points and 11.5 assists on 45/49/83 shooting. So yes, there is no doubt in anyoneís mind that Jose Calderon should be starting in this league, its just unfortunate for him that the Raptors signed Kyle Lowry this off-season. And it canít be easy for the guy because we all know that the Raptors are looking to trade him as soon as possible. But wherever he does end up, lets hope he gets the starting job because this guy is an assist machine.

Jose Calderon Deserves to Keep Starting Job

Thanks to Jose Calderon, who replaced the injured Kyle Lowry as the Toronto Raptors' starting point guard on Dec. 12, Canada's NBA franchise has won two straight games for the first time in eight long months.

This first was a 95-74 beat down against the Dallas Mavericks; the second, a 103-96 thanks-for-visiting-Houston-Rockets W.

Calderon is now averaging 14.0 points, 10.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds in three games since Lowry went down with a torn triceps.

In the Raptors' most recent victory, the 31-year-old Spaniard collected his second triple-double of the season and his career: 18 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds.

I don't mean to sound insensitive, but perhaps Lowry's injury is just what the Raptors needed.
As a starter, Calderon is averaging 13.2 points and 11.5 assists per game in 10 contests this year. Solid numbers they are. Especially when you compare those assists per game to Lowry's abysmal 5.6 average.

With Calderon running the show, the Raptors are 4-6, which is pretty darn poor -- but extremely better than their 2-13 record when Lowry starts at the point.
So, should Toronto delegate No. 8 to the bench when Lowry is ready to go?

No way, Jose.

Wow its all over the news lol !!!!!!!

Until he goes down with a hammy.

Come on he is playing great but can he sustain it? He has yet to do so ever in his career.

The same can be said for Lowry now too both of them are prone to injuries...

Who is better right now? I say they are both even Jose knows this team better because he has been here his whole career. Lowry has had 13-14 games to get to know his team mates It isn't enough to justify giving up on him IMO

If there was a time to trade Jose now is the time. Again before he goes down with a hammy injury again.

Jose, a True Professional
There was a shift in the air at the Air Canada Centre on Sunday following the Raptors win against the Houston Rockets, marking the first time since April 13, that the team had consecutive wins. But it was something that point guard Jose Calderon said after the game that had us members of the media talking.

Calderon who had 18 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists; his second career triple-double; was gushing about the achievement in the post-game scrum when he pointed out something that most of us already knew; that he was a true professional.

"I'm feeling really nice. With all these teammates, I know they respect me a lot. I made up my mind, I want to be the most professional player in the NBA, I don't know if I'm
going to be on the court or not but I want this team to win. This is my team, this is what I've been doing for eight years now, and that's what I do," said Calderon.

Calderon, who's been the longest serving Raptor, found himself in a position that he's dealt with before, playing back-up behind someone else. This season, he's become second fiddle to Kyle Lowry who was acquired over the summer, and as in previous seasons, he's shown us why he is the most professional player in the NBA.

Having gone through the same song and dance with former Raptors T.J. Ford and Jarrett Jack, Calderon has never complained or showed any discontent. Instead he's accepted whatever role the team has required of him and after starting in place of the injured Lowry on Sunday, some teammates like DeMar DeRozan acknowledged that professionalism.

"Let me tell you one thing about Jose, you play with him and he gives you the utmost confidence and he's never gonna tell you anything wrong. Since I've been here I've probably seen Jose upset once. He's kind of like the Tim Tebow of the team, he's just a good dude. You're with him and everything is just fine, nothing's wrong."

And when asked about Calderon's comment, Alan Anderson was in awe saying that it was something that was rare.

"You don't get that a lot. When you think about a player like that you think of a Derek Fisher or something like that but for a player to just say just to be the most professional, usually you have I wanna be the best scorer, the best defensive player, but that just shows his character. He's a great guy, great person, great player, leader flat out."

Anyone who's gone through the roller coaster rides that Calderon has experienced over the years including countless trade rumours, would have demanded a trade a long time ago, but instead he has stayed true to the organization by giving it his all.

And even though there may not be an award for professionalism, the fact that he has earned everyone's respect is more than enough to truly acknowledge it. But in the event that such an award is created, there's no doubt that he gets my vote.

Ok - you made your point again. And overstepped in doing so. I cleaned this up a bit and will now lock this up.
