Raptors MU made up for no pick with Buycks

I know it's only summer league but so far Dwight Buycks has looked real solid so far and has shown great basketball tools. Plus he's still 24 and has yet to get his feet wet in the NBA so there's a lot of potential for growth. Looking more like a great pickup by MU.

He reminds me of a less experienced Nate Robinson but he's 6'3", also remind me of a Ty Lawson. He plays with high energy, quick, has a great first step, and is great at getting to the rim (against mostly non-NBA players, but still). He can also shoot the 3, although needs to improve his confidence out there and get it a bit more consistent. I've also seen him with great hustle and a bit of grit, i remember he had this one great offensive tip out. He is also athletic and has a lot of potential to improve on defense.

He is still raw in terms of play making and I'd like to seem him in some more pick and roll action. He also had some head scratching plays/passes but you can somewhat direct that to the fact he's playing with new teammates.

I'm not completely sold on him yet though as there's still alot of basketball left to be played before I'm satisfied, but every game he plays I'm liking him more and more. All in all I'm really liking the pickup and for me he makes up for the lack of a draft pick this year.

I'm really liking MU's off-season moves, he's alot more shrewd compared to BC who often opted for "flashy" and "big splash" moves. Hopefully they add up like they did in Denver.

He's a third stringer. He's not expected to be big. He's not Nate at 6'3.. Is this the part of the year where we overrate the fuu of our players and then be 'surprised' that they didn't meet super ridiculous expectations in game 1 of reg season? (Such as: TR being starter calibre player, Rudy Gay being 2nd best SF, buyks being nate at 6'3, expecting Tyler to be the 2nd coming, DJ to somehow become the player he was 3 years ago.) Bleehhhh I rant....... >.>
I wouldn't be surprised to see him play barley any to no games next season.
Edit: Forgot Acy being Reggie Evans with FT% and leaping ability

Good idea not to overrate him, yeah. Alot of basketball left for him to play before we get a good picture but for an undrafted player that MU just plucked out of the summer league he's a good find and I can't help but be excited (especially with Jonas probably shut down for SL, need something to watch during the games). If anything this is showcasing what MU can do.

He does have skills. I thought he made some impressively nice passes as well. I hope to see more of him than Augustine, but we'll have to see how it all comes together.

Augustine/Buycks > Telfair/JL3

At least I'm hoping.

Don't get the hate at all.. Sure it's only SL and it doesn't mean much, and there's No need to say he is very good, but we have no reason to say that he sucks.
Im certainly not going to say that he is 3rd stringer who shouldn't get any playing time, untill I see him in the nba

He's been brought in as a third stringer, my point was to not put a expectation past his role, or atleast by that much. Something like a all-star potential player like Lawson or a 6/3 Nate is kinda out there. I wouldn't be surprised to see him play his role. Which would mean he wont get to play much.

Good post 'pound the rock'. Yesterday was the first time for me watching Buycks and I liked a lot of things that he did.

He knows how to get by his defender and he knows how to finish against the bigs inside. He's pretty clever and looks like a true pg. I could see him easily playing himself into the back-up role and who knows how far he'll take this opportunity. I don't necessarily agree with him being a 6'3 nate robinson though, I think they have different games. I think he plays a bit more like Jennings. If he can learn to hold onto his dribble once he gets inside he could be really good. To often he picks it up and goes into the air after he beats his man - but that's what 90% of pgs do his age so it's forgivable.

Like the analogy with the pick, he's only 24, so there's lots of room to grow. He looks like he can really score.

And yet a few of those things you say are unrealistic will be necessary for us to make the playoffs.

+1 I don't get the hate as well. From what I have seen he is decent pick-up by MU. His minutes and role will be determined I guess with the performance of the team and the moves we make before the trade deadline.

I agree. I bet buycks will end up being a scrub. I think he will get decent playing time. However, I think he will make a lot of mistakes and turnovers. He has not proven anything and we will garbage this year again.... Unintentionally.

buycks really left an impression on me. has the speed to beat his man straight up or on the break, and when he gets into the paint can slow things down to suck in the defense just long enough to find a shooter or use a hesitation dribble to freeze the help defender then blow by said defender. he changes speeds well, but maintains control.
