Default Is this the most depressing season ever?

I've been watching the Raps for about 5 seasons, I can't remember one being this depressing. For me it's mainly because I thought the team would make the play-offs and show consistent improvement, but it just seems like another lost season looking for answers.

I also don't like a lot of our contracts and players these days. And it's likely we're not getting a pick this year.

Where does this 1 rank in Rap lore for you guys?

The situation is make worse by the hopelessness of the situation. Casey seems to do the exact opposite of what 99% of the fans want. Normally this isn't always a bad thing but I really think he's killin' us short AND long term.

Every season after the 06-07 has been disappointing.

I prefer this season over the last one or two because I really really hated all the tanking and it really sucked all the pleasure out of the game. This season has been filled with disappointments as well but at least we had a legitimate chance at making the playoffs for a while, plus the future looks pretty bright now.

I wish we could just forget about the rest of the season and move on towards training camp and start over with a clean slate. (sans Casey and Bargs). Our starting five is still something to get really excited about so the playoffs should be a realistic goal.

For me the biggest disappointments this year are Lowry (had a good start but looks kinda lost now, he was supposed to make us significantly better, dunno if the injury is to blame), Casey and his insane rotations, and the whole drama surrounding Bargs...

There are also plenty of bright spots, we finally have our star SF, Demar and Amir improved, JV and Ross look great, so calling this season the most depressing in years would probably be a bit overdramatic. The future looks bright.

Just being able to get Gay makes this one of the more exciting seasons in recent memory lol!

i think the season 2009-2010 was way worst than this one.
we are still on building proces. In 09-10, we were playoffs contender until the Bosh injury...

at least even incosistant, you know that we have progress during the last two season.

the most depressing season is probably the year VC got traded, we didn't play well and he didn't play hard for most of the season he was on the court, and then after he got traded it was just depressing in general

Oh not even close.

At this point, we have shown that we can compete, and are missing a couple of pieces before we can be a solid team. The problem with Raptors fans is that they get so hopeful, so quickly, and when things go badly they can't regulate their emotions. For example, if the Raptors win, three or four pro Raptors threads will be started. However, if the Raptors lose, and don't perform as a seasoned perennial playoff team, then three or four negative Raptor threads pop up. Even better, people start posting on old pessimistic based threads. It's actually so predictable it's not even funny.

Some of the worst seasons were the first few, where Camby didn't really pan out, and Stoudemire just seemed to go far too quickly. Post Vince era was really tough. The Babcock years with the Williams duo was absolutely awful to watch. Remember Nate Huffman, Hoffa draft pick, and Golden Graham. I would even say that the first and only I guess Turk year was way worse.

Anyone who presumed that the playoffs were a given was only fooling themselves, and therefore are entitled to experience depression. That being said, there have been so many worse seasons for Raptors fans.

As a team, we have a potential star centre, a pg who can defend and just dropped a triple double, a sg on the bench that's highly rated by all here for whatever reason, a quality hardworking sg who continues to improve, a near star calibre sf, and a good starting pf. We also have the enigma that is Barney that will be resolved sooner than later. Life is a lot better than previous years, that's clear.

If we're on the theme of Mental Health, I think that is fitting for the variety of mood swings that occur with posters on this forum. We're not great or good, but we're certainly poised to improve. Nothing's a given however.

i remember 97-98 as our worst season. losing zeke and damon was a huge blow, our coach quit midway through the season, then kenny anderson wouldn't report. it was just hurtful.

The first 6 weeks was depressing, since then no. And when was the last time we had such a big trade in the middle of the season. I'm very curious about what we do this summer.

We'll still have clueless Casey next year. The roster isn't the problem, it's the staff (IMO).

I don't even blame Bargs for what's happened to him.

The most depressing year had to be 04-05 which would have been the NHL lockout year. VC was traded, and we had the likes of Eric Williams and Aaron Williams.

Jalen was our best player, and I actually liked him.

Hoffa...

Not depressing to me, just kinda frustrating. But at the same time, reason for optimism.

1. The trade just happened too late.
2. Anyone else we can get, other than Bargnani who will contribute from the bench will be a lift.

On paper, healthy, and with guys playing with heart, I'd expect the current roster stats to look something like this next year....

Lowry 13/7/4
Derozan 18/2/3
Gay 19/3/3
Amir 10/7/2
JV 10/10

The reason for optimism is that they have the opportunity gel more and to upgrade the bench, including jettisoning Primo. Also, more maturity and strength form Ross and JV. Considering all of these close losses, I don't see any reason they can't get 10 more wins. If you are a Raptors fan, you should be falling all over yourself for a .500 playoff team with young players.

its not depressing. I dont believe in the current roster though, hard to see a Raptors team that doesnt get cheesed by the wizards, cavs bucks, its just been like that for so long that it doesnt shock me when we lose those games. That really hurts our playoff chances next year with the improving lottery draft picks on those bottom seeeded teams

I agree with what you're saying, but you know BC will do something to fuck it up for us. We'll keep Anderson on and overplay him, Bargnani will still be around fucking things up, etc. Something bad will happen.

Thought the team would make the playoffs?! I'm glad you had such optimism.

At the beginning of the season I had the same opinion as Casey and BC. That the club would COMPETE and try to push for the playoffs. BUT that a non-playoff appearance would NOT BE CONSIDERED A FAILURE SEASON.

After we acquired Rudy...yes, our playoff hopes increased. But the whole we dug ourselves at the beginning of the year made the playoffs improbable.

I would love to find that poll showing where most RF members thought the Raps would end up when the season started.

I'm pretty sure it was mostly between 8 - 10th.

Therefore, we met our expectations this season.

It's been depressing right after VC took us to the Eastern Finals - the player signings after that really crippled us. Hakeem, Yogi, etc... Getting Bosh was a bright spark, but we never accomplished much with him.

The Kevin O'Neil season was the worst though - absolutely atrocious basketball. Games were simply not fun to watch.
