Default More on the Rebounding Issue

from hollinger's team previews:
Quote:
Oddly enough, the Magic were a terrible offensive rebounding team. With four shooters spacing the perimeter and Howard normally lined up on the strong side, Orlando rarely had players in position to gather second shots. The Magic's 24 percent offensive rebound rate ranked 28th -- only Toronto and San Antonio fared worse
what do the spurs, the magic and us have in common? A dominant PF/C surrounded by 3 or 4 3pt shooters. Thus, despite each team having one of the best rebounders in basketball (howard, bosh, duncan), they ranked bottom 3 in offensive rebounding.

i guess that shows how little offensive rebound rating has to do with success...

Too bad we are a horrible defensive rebounding team too, unlike the Magic and Spurs..

Team ranked 11th in defensive rebounds last season. 2.2 per behind first place Orlando.

On a side note, second best rebounding team last season only 0.1 rebounds per game behind first place Orlando was Indiana(9th in conference).

all this means jack shit

don't have the stats because i'm too lazy look them up and get you the link but i remember well that the raps are among the worst team's in rebounding differential and Defensive rebounding differential. Could give a shit that style allowed this team to get up there in rebounding totals because the fact of the matter is they were out rebounded every night.

Stop making excuses for that soft mutt bargnani, he needs to step it up more then anybody if this team wants to become a contender. It has jackshitto do with his style of play offensively, it has everything to do with this UFC mouthguard wearing pansy stepping it up

God damn cable guy mouthguard and he's a C. I blame Bosh for showing a horrible example as leader

Rebounding is all about wanting the ball more then your opponent and it seems as if Bargnani just doesn't want it.

I already posted most of this in another thread, but Toronto last season grabbed an average of 40.4 rebounds(O & D) per game and surrendered 41.9 rebounds per game for a difference of minus 1.5 rebounds per. Not really a huge difference by any means.(ranked 22nd)
22 Tor -1.5
23 NJ -1.6
24 Wash -1.7
25 Miami -2.1
26 Atlant -2.4
27 NY -4
28 LAC -4.3
29 Sac -4.9
30 GS -5

And in terms of defensive rebounds, our teams starters rebounded better than opposing teams starters(29.1 to 28 on both offense and defense). Obviously the biggest difference came from off our bench whcih was terrible in regards to rebounds getting outrebounded 13.9 per game to only 11.3.

And in regards to Bargs being a terribble rebounder, Bargs allowed the 8th best (in the nba) of offensive rebounds at his position.

to be honest, my opinin has always been that if you have two teams, both grab 10 rebounds. Team A has a stud that grabs 6, and the other guys get the reast, the other, has all guys contributing.

Team B wins.

Guard rebounding is overlooked too much. Last year, Calderon and Parker really let the team down there.

Calderon himself REALLY needs to improve here.

Truly.

BArgnani boxes his man out great. Now he has to learn to go get the ball.

This team will be one of the better rebounding teams in the league this year and our bench will play a huge part in that. We're way tougher than last year and that will make all the difference in the world. Bargs really improved his rebounding last season and will improve even more with an extra year's experience as will Bosh with his increased strength and desire to play closer to the basket this year. Turk keeps his man off the defensive boards great and should grab his usual 6 a game. Evans and Johnson are capable of being monsters on the boards as well. With increased attention to defence, much better rebounding will be a given.
