Heat Moon to Start for Heat?

Jamario Moon a small wonder in Heat victory

South Florida Sun-Sentinel
February 22, 2009

MIAMI - The Miami Heat may have found its new starting small forward.

While Jamario Moon might have to wait a bit longer to earn that distinction, the recent acquisition from the Toronto Raptors played all 12 fourth-quarter minutes in Saturday's 97-91 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Slashing to the rim with abandon, Moon offered his best imitation of Shawn Marion, the forward the Heat traded a week ago along with guard Marcus Banks and cash to Toronto for Moon, center Jermaine O'Neal and a future first-round draft pick.

"I think Jamario showed us what kind of athlete he is," coach Erik Spoelstra said after Moon scored all five of his baskets on dunks and helped limit 76ers forward Andre Iguodala to 14 points on 4-of-16 shooting.

With James Jones ailing with a sore shooting hand, Yakhouba Diawara figures to again start Sunday against the Orlando Magic at Amway Arena. But it would not be surprising to see Moon soon reprise the starting role he held for the majority of his two seasons in Toronto.

"I think I was a little overexcited," Moon said of badly missing a jumper in his early minutes Saturday.

He then found himself in lockstep with teammate Dwyane Wade for his series of dunks.

"I just cut backdoor," Moon said, "and, with the vision he has, he found me."

Wade liked what he saw.

"Jamario is a guy that we know is going to bring us a lot of energy," Wade said. "As he continues to learn our defensive concepts, he is going to be one of those lockdown guys, and that will be big for us."

Slashing to the rim 'with abandon,' huh?

That's what we wanted him to do in Toronto, but he didn't. I guess he likes the warmer climates better.

It pains me to hear that a player like MOON is playing better after leaving the Raps. Makes you wonder just how much of our team isn't performing to their potential.

Well, it's only been two games with Miami so far? I guess we'll see if he can keep it up.

We didn't use him properly. Remember 2007 preseason games? He was flying all around dunking every pass, too.
And Calderon is just

I remember moon playing with abandon after mitchell left ... for a couple of games ... we'll see if he can keep this style of play. His limitation (ball handling) can't be overcome regardless where he plays.

Worry not... in the long run Moon will show his true colours... and JO will get hurt.

the only good thing about Moon is his athletism to salary ratio

But your athleticism to salary ratio means nothing if you're parking on the perimeter and jacking up jump shots. Looks like things might be changing in Miami though - "slashing to the basket with abandon." That hurts...

You're look at this wrong. People shouldn't worry about players doing better on new teams and then wishing they be hurt or play like crap... how about looking at our team's weakly constructed offensive schemes as the problem and not some other whimiscal nonesense? It won't surprise me a bit to see another team utilize Moon's talents more than we did. I didn't watch the Miami game but i'm sure those were uncontested dunks. The point is that Miami is getting him open for those plays more than we ever could. They have guys that make that pass through traffic, push the ball aggressively and look for the easy buckets. We need to do more of that stuff and have for some time.

i also saw jamario take two dribble-drive, turn-around fadeaways yesterday. both misses. i don't wish ill-will on anyone, but you can only get so much out of that guy. you may have a great system that finds him for open dunks, but he'll also drift away into absent-mindedness a few times every game and will certainly cost you a few missed possessions because of it.

The ESPN guys were blaming the blowout loss last night to Moon and JO sucking. They didnt mention that they were the two guys in the trade....just that they sucked.
