I will obviously try to find out what went down if there indeed was a meeting today.

Also was told BC wanted to trade for vets and make playoff push earlier in year before losing skid but was "voted down by other voices."

Source with knowledge of situation tells me 99% chance BC is re-upped, and likely for 5 years.

@dinonationblog Not sure what the 1% would be, but looks like he'll be back and for a while According to Grange board meeting today about BC

Interesting to note he doesn't have full autonomy and thus shouldn't shoulder all the blame

I'm assuming this stems from last summer, early season when maybe he thaught he'd have to make the playoffs to keep his job. I'm guessing he was told to rebuild the right way and that they were gonna retain him anyway. If this is even true.

Also interesting to note that he had no intention to rebuild. And probably still doesn't prefer the idea. Not the best situation. And does this mean we aren't going to see a change in ownership, because that would suck.

Well considering he tried to aquire/sign Chandler, Diaw, Barnes it shouldn't come as a shock that he wanted to aquire vets......mind you in doing so he would have got rid of a couple of our current vets anyway, and saved money in the process.

Well at least in the 5 years he can feel confident that his job is secure and build a great team for Toronto. Let him continue what he started. And at least he listened and gain insight on others' perspectives in the company. It seems like he can make good sound decisions

indeed. it's very interesting and unsettling on a few levels. 1 that Colangelo intended to go about things the wrong way and 2 that the higher ups have too much say in running the team.

maybe i am in the minority, but if bc's potential moves would have placed team in the 8th or 7th spot heading into playoffs but put team into luxtax then it is a matter that should be voted upon by the board of mlse.

I agree that would be upsetting to say the least, and I just don't beleive it. It implies Peddie knows basketball and that is simply impossible.

Good to hear! I'm a bigtime bc fan and this is just music to my ears. Getting a new gm would be the biggest mistake this team could make right now.

Here's another article from Grange on the same subject.

Quote:
The way MLSE protects it’s privacy has always baffled me. I appreciate it’s a privately held business, but it’s not like other privately held businesses. It exists only to profit from the passions of its customers, who are typically unfailingly loyal and generous, and as a rule want to know as much as possible about the company’s teams and employees.

And yet simple things – like is there a board meeting today to determine the future of Toronto Raptors president and general manager Bryan Colangelo or not? – are held like state secrets.

Regardless, information does seep out.

There is a MLSE board meeting today and high on the agenda is the future of Colangelo.

“It’s an important issue,” said one source. “It’s front and centre, but the time lines are fluid, it doesn’t have to be decided today or next week or next month.”

But what will happen or is happening isn’t so clear. There may be no fixed deadline in place, but there is an urgency to decide what MLSE will do regarding it’s lead basketball executive as club tries to rebuild. Colangelo remains under contract until June 30th.

Colangelo's future, like Raptors: uncertain - The Globe and Mail

Lol... tell that to all the pundits who despised Babcock when he was here.

The double-standard that BC enjoys is pretty miraculous to behold.

I can't speak for them. I for one thought it was poor management to bring in Babcock two weeks before the draft, contributing to poor selections. I do fault him for the Vince debacle, leading to the Mourning debacle, for which he was outmatched

And you realize that it was Peddie and the board who pushed that deal through about 6 weeks before the trade deadline right?

No I don't, I've not been privy to such details. I would still question his role in those decisions and how they were handled, including Mourning's situation.

Perhaps he got voted down from hiring vets and making the playoffs because they want to keep the canvas clean for a potential new hire.
