The mighty Dwane Casey steps up

Quote:

The more you see of Dwane Casey the more there is to like about the Toronto Raptors head coach.

There’s nothing he can do about the exaggerated sense of fairness shown established opponents by NBA officials, but he’s shown he can pull the strings with an under-manned team the way Jay Triano never could with a fully constituted roster.

Sunday, Casey made strategic use of Jamaal Magloire late in the first half to find a post-up checkmate to Andrew Bynum and stem a tide that was rolling in the Los Angeles Lakers’ favour.

Friday, he busted the Boston Celtics’ zone with timely re-entry of Linas Kleiza and Jose Calderon into the game in the fourth quarter.

He has managed Calderon’s minutes shrewdly in the absence of Jerryd Bayless, and Calderon has responded with strong back-to-back games ahead of Tuesday’s visit of the New York Knicks and flavour of the month Jeremy Lin.

Yep - he's able to do quite a lot with what he's got. It has to bode well.

Can't wait to see what he can do with Joval + added talent.

Jay was never a good coach...I've said it before...he just wasn't.

I like Dwane...so far so good.

+1

I said it from the moment he was hired.

Jay was to coaching what Magloire is to center position.
Canadian, occasionally made look good by rest of the team

by going 22-60. Jay should have been sack as soon as he lost control of the players respect. I cant say how much I been impressed with Casey.

I think players liked and respected Jay. He always got compliments from his players. Why wouldn't you want a coach who let it roll on offense with no accountability on defense.

Jay Triano was exactly what this team needed last year. He designed an offensive system that allowed our young players to thrive and develop their scoring skills, and a defensive system that allowed the team to draft 5th overall.

Has no idea what he's doing in final plays though.

We should have hired Jay as an offensive co-ordinater type assistant coach. He's still working for us anyway, my as well make him useful.

He can take that Nori guys job.

No thank. I would have kept Alex English though. Jay's a tool.

Dont' be silly Jeff.... you may not have liked Triano as a head coach but insinuating that the guy has NO bball knowledge whatsoever is just ridiculous.

It would help if we could inbound the ball properly. Yes the Laker game was a terrible mistake by Butler and the Refs, but I remember Calderon telling off Butler after he inbounded a pass into a double team during the closing seconds of a game earlier in the season.

I never said he had NO basketball knowledge. I said he was a tool.

so true.. but that's how people are.

Although i like Casey for one big reason - he experiments. He's looking for ways to improve the team.

Triano mostly ran the same 5 for certain minutes, then our second 5 came in.

Casey changes the starting line-up, he subs players considering the different situations and match ups. He reacts accordingly. And he has his plan, his philosophy, his ideology.

It looked like Jay's plan was "go with the flow"

Who was ragging on Casey two weeks ago? To be honest, most of what i've seen has been positive about Casey so far here.

:yeah::yeah:

Jay was a career Assistant, that's the difference between him and Casey.
I agree that Casey is making Jay look hack right now, but don't discount Jay's b-ball knowledge, the man knows the game, he's just not head coach material at this point in his coaching career.
