Raptors Mid-season report card for Coach Casey: What grade letter would you give him?

I will give him a B-

The Raptors started out as a mess with a 4-19 record, than after Bargnani went down and Lowry was injured for a bit, coach made it work with the young guns and bench players and they found (some) chemistry. Raptors have been a pretty good defensive team for most games, but just can't hold it down in the 4th quarters and OT for a lot of them.

How would you grade him?

C. Complete misuse of players before the trade, moderate misuse since. Needs to have better defensive ratings as he is a defensive coach. Kudos for the high powered offense though, even though it can be tough to watch sometimes.

Thanks. Interesting to see how this breaks down, as it has been an up and down season.

I gave him a B.

I know the issues with the misuse of players, questionable rotations, bad play calls.

That being said, I think we're seeing the team that he wants out there now. He's been dealt some shitty hands with major injuries to Fields, Bargnani, JV...Now that everyones healthy we're playing hard and we're playing tough. I think it only gets better from here on out.

B.

Yes, he struggled with rotations early on, but as good coaches do, he has adjusted. Plus he's done a great job of getting Gay acclimated quick.

I like the fact that even with a 4-19 record the team didn't give up, and still competed every night, that is a sign of good coaching.. that he didn't lose the room with such a slow start, but because of that slow start I gave him a C

if you look at the starting rotation coming into the season, you can see why we struggled so badly.. you had a rookie center that is still learning the game, and at a difficult position, and you had him paired up with a 7'0 pf who plays terrible defense, so that whole front court was lost, then you had Lowry who didn't mesh with other players rite away

but I think the coaching staff saw it, but you couldn't exactly yank the highest paid player out the starting rotation.. I don't think BC would allow it anyway

C. They really did have a terrible start but that's not why I gave him a C, it was more because of the rotations he used when we had Calderon. Our 4th quarter play was atrocious time and time again, and nothing was changed.

I love Casey for his defensive strategy but offensively we need some work. In light of our recent wins, I'd love to see Casey to improve to at least a B by the end of the season.

He's great other than the rotations and inconsistent defence. I gave him a C because that's a huge deal. However, he really seems like a hard-worker, really modest and has the team pushing themselves everyday. He gets a lot of respect it looks like from the guys.

Its a tough call. Given the roster, its hard to expect big numbers in the win column. Given the injuries etc. But really, if you're being honest, you cannot have a team 12 games under .500 at mid point and give anyone, not the players or the coaches anything higher than a C, and since his job is to have these guys ready to go, and since this team lost a ton of games coming out of the halftime break as flat as a pancake, I would think he has to rate lower so I am giving him a D.

B, with the begging roster the expectation at the end of season is supposed to be around 33 wins I believe. If the play as of late continues he'll get over that. If he gets 33, that's a C. Over 35, a B. Lower then 32, D/F.

His rotations have gotten better as the year progresses ... we still suck on inbound plays and frankly he gets out coached often ...
I rated him a 'C' because he seems to have the support of the players.
