Default Memphis without Rudy Gay

Was said on Lakers vs. Bulls broadcast that Memphis are 14-1 last 15 games, all without Rudy Gay. First of all wow, this is really surprising to me. Especially since it's gone practically unnoticed, no mention on any Raps broadcasts or even on here. I honestly expected them to drop at least slightly without him, but to improve that much? Isn't he supposed to be our game changer and 15 million dollar man? This is the guy that is supposed to have saved B.C's job?

This isn't a "hate" thread, I don't dislike or particularly like Rudy. He's been a bit of a tease for us so far, he's clearly capable of performing better than he has. 37% for a guy his height and with his athleticism just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Are we destined for mediocrity with these borderline "stars" on their near-max deals?

They also hit an easy part of their schedule. I like Memphis, but they still have the same issues pre and post Rudy, they go into big lulls where they cant score, and thats going to be the reason theyre not going to win more than 1 round(if that) this year.

Their record is really good, but not quite as good as you posted. The Grizzlies are really 13-4 since Rudy left, or 13-3 if you only count the games after Prince, Daye and Ed Davis were available to use in their lineup. It's also worth noting that only 2 of their wins came against teams above .500

So, really, 13-4 or 13-3 during one of their easiest stretches of games is not that surprising. The good defensive teams can lock the crappy teams down and take care of those games quite easily. And, it's not like the players they got back were total shit.

exactly, if you're not a franchise that's a player's choice then you're pretty much destined with a bunch of 2nd rate "stars"

Gay is floating right now. He's not use to playing for a team so far out of the playoffs.

Thats not an excuse for him. Thats just why I want to see a full season that matters out of him before I pass judgment.

The hell with that. Some players get endless seasons to be judged on this team. Rudy gets half a season

Wait the Lakers are in 8th and the Griz are in 4th...how are you expecting them to face each other in the 1st round...there is no way the Lakers are catching Denver for 5th...Right now the Lakers are gonna face San Antonio...your post makes no sense

I interpreted the post to mean that he thinks the Lakers can move up to 6th and the Grizz can move up to third. That is quite possible. Notice that he said "likely", not "will", so he is obviously not basing his comment on a fixed position like the current standings, but rather positioning that could shift based on probability.

Memphis didn't make the playoffs the first 4 years of Rudy's career

if Gay plays like a borderline star, ok with me. Along the lines of guys like Gallinari, Batum, Kirilenko. I'd take it. But he's been outplayed by guys like Jeff Green or Parsons over the last 15-20 games.
