Raptors Memphis scouts at the last 2 Raptor games

Maybe that's why Alabi was brought up when he was? Maybe he might be included in a deal for Thabeet?

Either way, it's interesting. At the same time we play them next week, so it's probably nothing at all.

As @beezersun points out, Grizzlies director of pro scouting took in his second straight #raptors game today. Grizz/Raps not until 27th

So kind of weird he is here for two games. Memphis apparently shopping Thabeet hard and Raps need a true centre ...

#raptors quick to say Memphis scout being here twice in row is completely normal. So maybe nothing brewing after all

nice, Thabeet and Alabi are very similar but I guess Thabeet's extra size would be helpful

Aside from the fact he was picked second, why would we trade for Thabeet? Does he have the much potential?

Yes...Kinda...well maybe. Thabeet does have talent. Also has something you can't teach which is a 7'3 body. Does that mean he will be great? As you can see right now no but some players take longer to developed then others and big man even more.

So you take a chance on him and hope he develops fast and reaches all the potential he has. Most of the time it probably doesn't work....a few times you might get lucky. So this is one of the times you take a chance and you just hope this is one of those few times you hit the lottery and win big.

Exactly, and he will still bring us defence and rebounding at the center spot which is something that we really need right now.

And also, Memphis lacks a good bench and we have alot of good bench players so we would be good trading partners for them.

Time to move Kleiza? He was good in the last 2 games Hm? Superstar Weems coming back anyways.

And I think Memphis wants a true man. Now everything they have, is gays, scrubs and mayonnaise.

I demand Marc Gasol.

They can have anyone they want except Bargnani because I'd like that pairing in the front.

In advance of everyone's replies who disagrees with me: OH YEAH?! SHUT UP!

I don't think the Raptors would trade Alabi for Thabeet. The salaries don't match since Alabi was a second rounder and Thabeet was the second pick.

If there is a deal, it's going to involve Mayo... why would the Raps give up Alabi in a deal for Thabeet when both have showed about the same amount of return? Thabeet's ceiling seems higher, but it's not a clear upgrade and it's only a deal that would be done if both teams are soured on each big....

Memphis needs a bench. I could see Weems and Wright for Mayo. I like what Wright brings to this team though. I don't think the Raptors pay a significant premium on top of Alabi to get Thabeet, so I doubt that deal is even remotely plausible. Thabeet and Mayo?

see that to me seems like a clear overvalue of our players and what they could get in return. I'm pretty sure Memphis would not get rid of a project big man for an even bigger one (bigger project that is), and i am also confident that two unproven role players would not land a more potent player like Mayo.

I wasn't suggesting Alabi would land Thabeet outright... but I was suggesting it's not worth paying a premium of Alabi plus something to get Thabeet. No overvalue at all.

In terms of Mayo, I think Weems being the core of a deal heading to Memphis works for them.... but I'm sure there would have to be more. Whether it's Miami's pick and Wright.... who knows. Mayo has not played great this year, and he is coming off the bench too. They've been looking to trade him before (Elllis) so clearly they are not as enamoured with him as they were before it was clear thay Gay would be resigning. They have no depth and are a cost-conscious team... so one way to resolve that is to trade a more expensive player for two lesser players.

At which point did I overvalue?

Weems and Wright for starters. I'd say you give Weems too much credit. Or rather people's perception of weems who really is a glorified role player being given a bigger responsibility here because of the thin squad. and Wright? those two are not going to do it. I could see them being interested in Derozan moreso than Weems who IMO has far more potential.

lol... I definitely don't give Weems too much credit... but he is a cheap athletic player who has shown quite a bit on both sides. Mayo has been struggling, and if you put Weems and Miami first rounder with Wright as salary filler, I'd say that's pretty good value for a team looking to bolster their bench. Maybe you're giving Mayo too much credit?

I think it is easy to overvalue and undervalue SG's because there are always guys that can be had to play there, but it's difficult to find a true stud. I'm not entirely convinced Mayo is that stud, whereas many seem to think Weems could be as well. Obviously I'd prefer Mayo, but also because he fits on the Rap's better than Weems at this point.

Memphis is cheap, and a firstrounder with Weems is not a bad deal by any means.

For Mayo I would give up any of our wings. All of them even.

If we have a wing who can score at will, that would be a nice change.

I think if we got a solid defensive big you would actually be able to put a decent squad together here with the remaining pieces.

Mayo has three years left on his contract so in year 3 we could have

PG- Bayless
SG- Mayo
SF- ? Who knows who will go in this trade.
PF- Ed Davis
C- Bargnani

If players improve as they are expected to, that team could be very very dangerous. All you would really need would be a good shooter at SF.
