Before we get started let me give you the latest on Barnes. The Raps are one of five teams in position to get him. The other teams are BOS, LAL, MIA and CLE. From my understanding, CLE more than likely is out of the picture. With respect to the money, if it were to be a sign-and-trade, it would have to start at 1.9 million. The one thing the Raps can offer are more years and the potential for Matt, for the first time in his career, getting "Bird Rights" which offers him the opportunity to make more money in the future.
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:05 Matt Devlin
So Barnes and the Raptors is still alive, however, MIA and Pat Riley are making a hard push, Lakers are deeply involved and Boston is in the picture as well.

What ever happened to the Kleiza offer? Denver had until last Friday to match and nothing has been in the news. Oops there goes Miller too!
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:07 Stephen
Denver did not match and he will be with the Raptors.

question, do u think the Raptors have a better chance this year without Bosh playing with the players we have now and based on the las vegas pre-games?
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:08 faran
Tough to tell right now because you're trying to replace 24 pts and 10 rebs. Andrea will go from 12-13 shots per game up to about 16, which is where Chris was. More importantly, he will slide over to his more natural position of power forward. I don't put much stock into Las Vegas. Outside of the fact that it's good for self-confidence and development. At the end of the day, if this team takes on a hardhat mentality and gets after it on a nightly basis, they will win games. In the NBA, a team that gets after it night in and night out, no matter the talent, wins games. Great teams can win 60+, average teams can win 45+, below average teams can get to 30.

Why is Bryan Colangelo looking to shop Calderon. I know he isn't the best defender and all but he is a good (if not very good) point gauard in this league. Does aquiring Barbosa make that decision easer or even a must at this point.
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:11 Marlon
You're right, Jose is a strong offensive point guard that has trade value. But with the direction of this team, I think it puts Jose in play when it comes to making a deal. Jack can play the 1 and the 2, so can Barbosa. The team has under contract players that are versatile and can play multiple positions and players that have the ability to get out and go.

Bargnani and Belinelli playing international basketball this summer with the Italian national team... how did they do, and can this actually improve their game for this upcoming season?
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:13 Arif
They're right now getting prepared for EuroBasket Qualifying for 2011. As far as improving their game? In some cases yes, in some situations they don't get enough recovery time. In some cases they're asked to do different things on their national team that they wouldn't be doing with their NBA Team. It's a delicate balance between an nba team and the national team.

what other centers/big man are out there that the Raptors can get?
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:16 gp
I would expect the Raptors to be looking at a veteran big maybe, to go alongside the younger bigs they currently have on the roster.

Demar, Sonny, and Amir are known as the "Young Guns," and it seems as if they have good chemistry (See AmirTV mini dunk-off). Does this at all affect the overall team chemistry when considering the Euro players as well.
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:17 Zakaria
When you look at the team right now, the makeup continues to evolve. But I don't think that it's a negative effect at all. I think it's a positive effect. In any work environment, there's going to be people that get along better than with others in the workplace. It's up to the coach and the leadership of the team to get everyone focused on one goal and one goal only, and that's winning.

Linas Klieza... do you consider this an upgrade over Turk in the SF spot, and also if his game changed at all due to his stint overseas after being with the Nuggets? What does this guy bring to this team this upcoming season?
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:19 Tupac Shakur
He's a versatile forward that can shoot the 3... is he an upgrade over Turkoglu? Based upon how everyone views Turkoglu in this town? ABSOLUTELY. However, he's never put up numbers that are even close to Turk's from this past year.

With the eastern conference looking so strong, how do you see the Toronto Raptors matching up with with the strength and depth of some of the teams such as Miami, Chicago and Boston?
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:23 Fazli
Right now, they're not close to Miami... but who is? The Lakers? Chicago has Rose, Noah, and now Boozer and Korver. Boston we know what they have. Does this mean this team is without talent? Absolutely not. But it's a team, that right now, is putting the pieces together. As I said before, if they take on an strong willed identity, a hardhat mentality, they will have success.

When is the press conference to introduce Leandro Barbosa aka. The Brazilian Blur ?
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:26 V
Well, the Brazilian Blur is currently in Brazil. So there's no plan as of now, which is quite common throughout the NBA during the summer because players head back to their homes.

Ed Davis, next CB4? From what I've seen, he as very little post moves and no face-up game at all. What is his potential?
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:27 Damien Marley
I don't think anybody has compared him to CB4, certainly his offensive game isn't that polished. He plays closer to the rim than Bosh, has a nose for rebounding and can block shots. I spoke with people that saw in Vegas and those that scouted him at UNC, while they feel he may be raw now, they believe he has big upside with respect to being a scorer, rebounder and a shotblocker in this league. The big question will be: will he be able to handle the physical nature of the game immediately.

Why didn't we want to take beasley from miamy?
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:29 Pedro
Because the team got two draft picks and trade exception. If you had taken Beasley that wouldn't be the case. Also, even with all of his great potential, he has other issues. He went to six high schools, spent one year at Kansas State. After two years in Miami, he already onto his second NBA team and I have a feeling it won't be his last. He went for a second round pick, which tells you what 29 other teams think of him.

Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:33 Clay
Too early to tell, but right now we know Miami, Orlando, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Milwaukee are all in the mix... How will Charlotte be? Washington? Cleveland? NY? New Jersey? Outside of injuries, it appears teams will be battling for those seventh and eighth spots.

Why can't BC admit or commit to rebuilding rather than "re-tooling", although the two failed trades would have made the roster look half decent. Isn't time to start improving through the draft and small trades instead of adding more role players to a team with no franchise player?
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:37 Mustafa
How many true franchise players are out there? How many franchise players were in this draft? Aside from all the media hype, historically speaking, there aren't that many. There's the 1984 draft, which changed the league, the 1995 draft and most recently the 2003 draft. If we look back now since the 2003 draft, I think you could say Paul, Deron Williams, Durant, Dwight Howard, is Rose in this category yet? I think he is. I'm talking about realistic franchise guys... game on the line, they're going to put their team on their back and get your team into the playoffs or win you a series no matter what. Off the top of my head, we've come up with five guys with two coming from the same draft since 2003. it's not easy to get a franchise player, you have to be lucky in the draft or you've got to want to chill on South Beach hahahaha. With respect to Bryan, he's said it's not in his DNA to accept a losing team, but if you look at the moves that he has made, he is setting this team up with draft picks as well as financial flexibility post-new CBA.
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:43 Matt Devlin
Franchise players are hard to come by. If you have a player that's close to a franchise guy, you're going to do everything you can to secure him and build around him. But at the end of the day, players like Bosh, Gasol, Garnett are better suited to be the second, third options on an NBA team. But they all have been a franchise guy at one time or another in this league.

With all these failed deals going on in Raptor land, not saying its Bryan Colangelo's fault but do you think these failed deals have tarnished his credibility a bit?
Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:49 Anthony R
No I don't. I think when you go back to the Chandler deal and the Barnes deal, with the new social media being used in both cases by the players, it altered both deals. When it became public after Chandler acknowledged he was coming here and it was tweeted, then other teams knew they had a window to try to get involved and that deal fell apart. Also, because from my sources, Larry Brown decided he didn't want Jose. With respect to the Barnes deal, if he doesn't tweet that, it allows his agent as well as the Raps, time to work this deal through outside of the public eye.

Hey Matt. Do you see Barbosa coming off the bench in the 2 position or the 1? If Jose/Jack is traded, I would see him come off the bench as a PG.

Hi Matt, just want to know how you think the Raptors front line will be able to rebound this year. Rebounding seems to always have been a problem for the Raptors and with Bosh's 11 rebounds a game leaving, do you think guys like Andrea and Amir will be able to step their game up and fill the void?
Wednesday July 21, 2010 1:00 Drake
Not only Andrea and Amir, but Ed Davis, Alabi... it's going to have to be a focal point. This is a team that also may also be looking to add a veteran big as well.

Wednesday July 21, 2010 1:03 Asher Tauran
I don't foresee Wright back in a Raptors uniform at this stage, but you never know. I know he's aggressively seeking opportunities with some teams.

I caught a few of the Raps summer league games. I liked what I saw from Joey Dorsey. He is tough. I have read that BC is going after a big. With the combination of Amir and Joey do you still think that a big is needed or should they address another position?
Wednesday July 21, 2010 1:04 Ryan R
I still think a veteran big is needed. I don't know if Joey is going to be someone that sees a lot of minutes.

What's the best possible way to allow Bargani to move into the power forward position, which seems to be his natural position, rather than the center ?
Wednesday July 21, 2010 1:06 Jonathan Mendonca
I think at this stage he is the starting power forward on this team. It's as simple as that. As far as the starting centre? Don't know. At this point I just see him as the power forward moving forward. Bryan believes that he's somebody who can get to 20 ppg and hopefully as many as 8 rebs. He had career numbers last season. I certainly think 20 & 7 is doable.

Matt do you see de rozen stepping his game up to the number two guy on this team?
Wednesday July 21, 2010 1:10 bala
At this stage, Andrea's the number one offensive option. DeMar has a huge opportunity here. He was named to the all-tournament team in Vegas and its up to him to translate that to the regular season, because we all know that the VSL isn't the regular season. And we all know that the NBA regular season isn't like the NBA playoffs. Theoretically you can say he's the second option but realistically he's going to have to prove it by coming out strong in training camp and early in the season.
