Matt Barnes??

I can't believe I can't find any rumours or ANYTHING about Toronto being interested in barnes. He's an explosive SF, he can spread the floor with his 3, and he's a runner. His style of play was an intricate part of Golden State's defeat of the top seeded Mavs a couple years back. Because he RAN!!!! And on a Raptors squad that wants to be a running team (which is averaging last in fast break points might I add), signing a guy who made only 1.2 million last year won't necessarily break the bank either. Would be a great addition to the bench and his style of play fits with Calderon's habit of throwing alley-oops.

Welcome to RF Mo.

I've been wondering that too as to why Barnes' name hasn't really come up much either. I wouldn't mind him and as you said he could come relatively cheap. I think right now the main focus for BC is either Marion or Hedo and if neither of those two come to fruition within the next couple days, that Barnes could be another name we hear more of here in Toronto.

I'd not sign him for more than $2 mil/yr

His outside shooting is only decent at best (33% career) and he doesn't look like he will make much impact defensively.

that's where your wrong we were a running team up until this season ended. we got a new head coach and a defensive minded assistant. we're looking to become more of a defensive presence because bryan is tired of seeing his team get mocked by kg,shaq,d12. so, there's the reason barnes isn't on of our main priorities plus, he's a bench player not a starter. so, marion is before him or as some of you would like it to be that dreaded hedo guy.

Please elaborate on his "problem" ...
from what I saw he did very good job when Phoenix went back to the fast pace.
He would bring 10/5/34% for 2.5-3mil per year.
I would prefer him over Delfino, but could see them playing on a credible 2nd team unit for the Raptors.

There is also Grant Hill available.
Capable, efficient veteran mentor for DD

That's dumb and will never happen. Grant Hill is close to retirement and will only play for a championship team.

I think Marion and DD will be our SFs this year. We need a SG with our MLE like Daniels or something... Matt Barnes doesn't fit

Marion and DD are fine at the SF.

I'd really like to see a Delfino/Childress combo at the 2. I think that could be really effective considering they're both very versatile players...

I'd rather get a quality (as much quality as we can afford) back-up for Marion than have DD start off his career playing against stronger SFs every night. He can guard, at least on paper, pretty much any 2 in the league. Could he check guys like Carmelo, Josh Smith, or LeBron? Hell no. Barnes/Kleiza could do it much better, though.

Lacks lateral quickness on defense, he's not too strong to play PF, average to bad 3pt shooter...
I only see his close to mediocre ball handling and ability to run the floor

Not any impact player, specially on defense, where we need the biggest help possible

the problem with the Raptors squad is they have too much money tied up into guys we won't even use so its hard for us to get better with one big splash in the free agent market. i think thats what most toronto fans can't quite understand. we have no chance of getting turk if we wanna build the team around Bosh like BC said. he's gonna want a huge deal.

when referring to my previous point, if the Raptors pour all their assets into a ron artest, or a ben gordon (who is in detroit now i think) or whoever. he have ZERO depth. who's gonna play big minutes when someone gets injured? roko? banks? hump?

might i add we have a combined salary of 7.6 million poured into marcus banks and kris humphries. since all our money is tied up with guys we don't use I would suggest getting as many players as possible for the minimum amount of cash (ones that would actually be used) instead of attacking the FA market with all 9-10 million

Why do we want a guy that's good on a running team? Since when were the Raptors a running team?

Depth doesn't account for as much as you would imagine.

Example:
Boston had one of the worst benches last year yet they still managed to secure their division title and get to Game 7 of the conference semifinals.

Strong play from the big 3 more than makes up for this.

There's two ways of doing it.

Ride 3-4 players and pray they stay healthy and nothing goes wrong. Or have a strong starting lineup and decent affordable bench depth.

Pierce really deserves a lot of credit for carrying that team. For stretches he really was the best player on the planet. In the end though - it took Chicago handing them a couple of games to get through the first round. They really could have used the depth.
