Matt Barnes?

I believe he only signed a one year deal with LA. If he doesn't want to go back and providing we don't have a lockout next year would you want to sign him?

I think a SF rotation of JJ and him would be pretty solid.

SomeDPlease 04-03-2011 03:02 PM

He wouldn't want to leave. Also, I'm sure the Lakers organization would want to keep him, he's a solid role player any contending team would want.

For sure, but money and playing time obviously is a concern of his. We'd give him the MLE and he'd start... I think we could pry him away.

Shit! If that deal and Tyson Chandler deal went on, we would be in playoffs right now. We would have 2 of the toughest dudes in the NBA + Reggie Evans!! The "SOFT" wouldn't be in our vocabulary when talkin' about raptors!

Don Vito 04-03-2011 03:23 PM

Why would we need him, especially if he would start? Off the bench is okay, but not to start. With the youth movement this team has it doesn't make sense to start an older player.

MISAM38 04-03-2011 03:23 PM

werent we pretty close to landin him last yeer? Personally i tot he should have stayed in Orlando.

and we'd also lose in the first round..

I didn't want him when we were about to sign him and I don't him now, why would we want an old head like Matt Barnes. He's the type of player thats only useful on contender type teams, here he'll just take away from our young guys.

+1. I don't think he would want to leave LA but you never know. Also has a 2M player option I believe with LA. So if he likes LA I see him staying there.

The thing you have to remember is that we're the 2nd youngest team in the league right now.... which plays a role in how many games we've lost.

You need at least a few solid vets on any squad to show the younger guys how play the game properly.

That being said I'm not sure that Barnes would be the best fit on a team without a strong leader present to reign him in when he gets out of hand.

Reggie Evans was in the Tyson Chandler deal.

When you think about it really, the Raptors are not soft. We have terrible defense but I don't think we are soft if that makes sense. JJ, DeRozan, Ed, Amir, Bayless, Reggie, Dorsey are FAR from soft. Even Weems isn't soft he just sucks. Really the only rotation player that plays soft is Bargs.

Agree

MARTYNAS 04-03-2011 11:43 PM

I think he is underrated. What is his contract, 2M? He is good defender and can hit from long range. The issue is his character.
Strange, but he was awful on D just when Lakers played against Barca. La Bomba raped him so easily and with no mercy...

Shifty.py 04-04-2011 04:42 AM

I doubt he will leave LA

Ron Artest is available for sure, but who wants him?

jeffb 04-04-2011 10:02 AM

I was thinking about this a few weeks ago. I wouldn't doubt that he'd leave if we offered him 3yrs/12Mil and a starters role or starters type minutes off the bench. I actually think he'll opt out since he makes the vets minimum anyway. He won't get any less anywhere else including in LA. What he'll want is a raise and term.

Would argue that Calderon is soft.

And I would argue otherwise.

He's been the one Raptor consistently stand up for himself over the years.

He went at Garnett, Baron Davis this year, Tyler Hansborough last year, I remember him also going getting under Anthony Johnson's skin.

emotionally, calderon isn't soft. physically, he most certainly is.

+1

Jose is great vocally, hes always talking, which is great. but physically he is not as durable as many people in the league. Ankle and hamstring problems prove that.
