Marvin Williams?

Would he fit here? IMO he'd be great in Casey's defensive system, and he can give you 12-14ppg starting here and he can shoot the 3. Plus he's only 25yrs old. I just don't know who they'd want from our roster. Him and Barbosa make the same money but do they need a SG?

Marvin Williams continues to be an ancillary part of Atlanta's offense and sources say he would like a trade.

Williams is averaging just 9.6 points per game this season and would like to find a situation where his usage increases.

He'd be a great guy here as long as we're giving back salary that isn't coming off the books. 8M is high for what he brings and I like the guy as a player. Barbosa as a swap makes no sense for us. Amir might be an interesting fit.

halphbreedballer 02-21-2012 12:36 PM

I gotta say there is something about his game that is off...
Maybe a change of scenery could help...

If we could get him & there 1st & 2nd round picks for Barbosa & possibly Amir/ Davis?

That makes no sense. Amir has a great contract, no point in trading players just for the sake of trading.

i like Williams as long as we arent reaching too much and arent using too much value to get him.
i wouldnt be against barbosa or amir for him.

he's such an unspectacular player that quietly gets the job done. He's been hiding on that Atlanta roster for so long, a change of scenary would be the best thing to happen to him. i could see him thriving here, and failing hard on other teams. he's a right/wrong place type of player, that needs to be in the perfect setting to do damage. he'd do damage here, i think.

we've got a logjam at PF next year.
there wont be enough minutes to go around. Amir is the odd one out.

+1 With JV likely being able to play both frontcourt spots, I just don't see why one of Amir or Ed wouldn't be seen as trade pieces. I like Amir's disposition and attitude but his contract is less favourable while Ed has his own flaws too. If we need to move salary to get Marvin, which I think is the wise route, then Amir makes more sense. Giving Barbosa ends up being less valuable unless we're getting additional value in the way of a pick or something. He's an expiring.... unless Marvin at 8M per is an ideal fit.... which I don't think it is.

I agree, & I was just thinking Marvin isn't better than our current SF combination...

Maybe we are looking at change here just for the sake of change.
Unless we can get a pick?

What I like is that it would absolutely solidify our SF spot for a long time, while also having guys that can play the 4 too. Being able to take advantage of the flexibilty is just as important as having it. Moving one of Ed or Amir makes that more likely and Marvin is a guy that is more than capable on both sides of the ball.

Bayless/Amir/Kleiza

for

Williams/Teague/1st or 2nd

Teague/Jose?
Derozan/Barbosa
Williams/JJ
Bargs/Davis
Val/?/Gray

Still have 10Mil capspace + possible amnesty and have Jose/Barbosa as trade chips add to that Val + 2012 draft pick.

I think they're high on Teague... Doubt they'd do it.

I agree. Just wondering what else could be thrown into the mix. Too bad we don't have enough to get Williams & Smith in a package. If Horford wasn't hurt i bet he could be had, but we'd have to give up Bargnani.

MikeToronto 02-21-2012 02:22 PM

When people crap on Bargnani for not playing well enough for #1 overall pick, Marvin Williams immediately comes to my mind as an example of a much greater disappointment as a #2 overall, especially considering how unbelievably strong that draft was. Three All-Star caliber point guards! He is not far from Milicic going #2 in 2003.

Jose + 2nd round 2012

for

Williams + 1st round 2012

No TPE is needed.

With Teague and Hinrich do they really need a 10Mil/yr PG?

More importantly, do we really need Marvin Williams? :confused2:

Why not? A SF that can actually shoot the ball and also plays D.

There are way better alternatives in the draft. Marvin hit his ceiling, he isn't getting any better.

His ceiling is better than alot of players we have and it's very likely that he can maintain said ceiling for another decade.

His best season was in 2007-08, he's declined since - are you sure?

Admiral 02-21-2012 06:09 PM

his game seems very average, i don't see him being much of an upgrade from either kleiza or JJ
