Unreal.

Can we talk about how this affects our sports teams, broadcast channels and whatnot?

I mean, in terms of companies, Rogers and Bell are much more tangible than OTPP since most people use or have used their products directly. Seems like there's a lot more at stake for them in terms of public opinion than the pension plan.

How will this effect the Jays and the $$ Rogers can spend on them?

Well if anything Rogers has just increased their earnings based on the profits that the Leafs and to a lesser extent the Raptors and TFC bring in so i don't see how that's bad news for the Blue Jays. Let's face it, Rogers and Bell are swimming in money and because of this they will soon have more of it.

The only thing i don't like about this is that pretty much one company/corporation will own EVERY team in the city. My uneasiness isn't based on anything concrete other than it just doesn't feel right.

200 mil to get 4.5%
553 mil to get 37.5% ....

Math does not work.

Yeah, all I know is bell and rogers paid 553Mil each (so I heard) and Larry bought in for an additional 5% and the sale was 1.32Bil. You're right though it was likely under 100Mil

The irony.... Teachers put a multi-year plan in place for Bell and new CEO when they were planning on buying Bell in 2008. That plan is being executed by their CEO and is working incredibly well for Bell... which gets part of MLSE from Teachers for 1.3 instead of 1.7 asking.

As I said before there were no possible buyers for MLSE at over a billion beyond these 2companies. When they Joint Ventured, they leave Teachers high and dry with only one possible buyer. Justice IMO.

So happy to see Peddie gone too. I hope Raptors beneift in that they may finally be able to spend into the tax since it pays back to inprove the product and ratings.

Just to be straight Rogers spent 37.5%
Bell spent 28%
& then they used Bells pension plan to purchase the final 9.5%

So Rogers actually now is the majority owner of MLSE on paper, but either way Larry will be making all final decisions in regards to MLSE

No, Bell bought 37.5%, they then split it internally for the 28/9.5% splits.
Bell has 37.5% power.

I hope league doesn't intervene in the last moment to nix the deal.

THANK GOD we won't have to see Peddie's stupid face around this team anymore.

Part 1 of "operation turning the corner" is now complete.

I could care less about Peddie we barely saw him anyway.
But I really hope this works out for the better, but I don't it changes much at least short term.

FYI, to have majority power, you have to have 50%+1 ownership. Right now there is no majority owner. Even if Bell had only 28%. Which they don't.

Seriously, I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that meeting room...

I expect they'd share the broadcasting schedule the way guys who pitch in for a season ticket split games. Regardless, the arch-rivals now pretty much have to learn how to work together and fans can only benefit.

slightly off topic, but success from these teams can generate some more cash for Rogers to sign some players for the Jays in a non-salary cap league

Yep - this is key. They did the deal partly to provide easy content for respective outlets. But they also did the deal to improve their brands, both of which are succeptible to swelling ire and dismay, since the two of them basically amount to a media cartel. You can choose one or the other and end up equally pissed off. By being front and center in this deal, they have the opportunity to make people see red a little less, and feel a little less blue, when they see the logos. Winning could make people feel good at the sight of the logos, and commercials featuring douchebags with their free tablets. The spinoff effects for that sort of thing go far beyond anything the pension fund would be looking at. Winning is going to mean so much more. It's just automatically a much better situation for the fans.

I'm zapped and overworked today, but I'm still feeling a buzz from this news.
