At this point I've lost hope for lowry to stay and won't be surprised when he ends up with another team. Unless Raptors just wins a championship next year...

People are so fickle. It was pretty clear that Bucher was posting garbage. Who knows where Lowry will go. Who knows what other moves MU and staff will make. Even if Lowry moves on, I'm confident that MU will make moves to improve the team.

Well said. I don't have the least worry that Kyle will leave. And if it somehow transpires it will not be the end of the world. They are building a team, not looking to milk one or two players.

Why not? If no playoffs for a year or 2 means the team gets better for the long haul I'm totally on board - I would suspect most here would be. Personally, I think MU is going to attempt to do both, go for the play-offs and retool on the way.

Glad he's not going to go the route Philly is....good on them but they've just locked themselves into a few more years before they're going to see any of the fruits of their labors.

I'm personally pleased that MU isn't trying to find band-aid solutions. Sure, a guy like Early or Hood would have helped the team next year, but beyond that they're likely role players. He wants to get players with high ceilings. It's a boom-or-bust scenario, but you have to take these kinds of gambles when drafting in the latter half of the 1st round.

Don't forget the players that will be waived or moved as well:

Salmons - 6 mil
TH - 3.3
Stone - 1 mil
Buycks - 1 mil

That's 11.3 mil and if KL goes he'll probably either save the team his cap hold of 9.3 mil or in a S&T for expirings (thought that would have to be done soon). If one needs more money then waive and renounce Amir and sign him longer term with the mle. What does that leave?

DD - 9.5mil
Salmons - 1mil
LF - 6.25 (probable trade candidate at the next deadline)
CH - 6 mil (probable trade candidate at the next deadline)
Novak - 3.4 mil
JV - 3.6 mil
PP - 4.3 mil extend the QO this year
GV - 3.4 mil extend the QO this year
Tross - 2.8 mil
Nando - 1.8 mil extend the QO this year
Camby - 0.6 mil
Bruno - 1.8 mil

That's 44.8 mil - then go after Bledsoe or some other player and sign Amir after. Am I looking at this wrong? Could even sign Lowry AND pick-up another nice player, then bring Amir back.

I think the salaries of players you waive still count against your cap.

Just renounce their rights and no cap holds. That's what the Heat are trying to do to clear up all that room. It's tricky though, it's easier to work above the cap than below it.

if they are still under contract their contract counts against the cap, waived or not. if they are free agents, you can waive them and the cap hold disappears. if they have a partially guaranteed contract, like th and js do, you pay that partial amount and it counts against the cap. the rest of their salary disappears.

Waive them or renounce their rights? if they are waived they count unless you renounce their rights, then no cap holds. If the holds stayed after being waived or non guaranteed or their contracts expire without the ability to renounce their rights to remove their holds teams like Miami would be fk'd :cookie:

The cap holds are for closing a loophole in the CBA but they're not absolute.

Note that A) players do not count as their QO, they count as their cap hold which is much higher than the QO amount.

And B) if you go under the cap to sign players, you lose the MLE, so re-signing Amir would have to be done with the room MLE, which is not enough money to sign him.

So once you extend the QO only this year as the salary, does the hold stay the same till next summer and then deal with the salary then or does the cap hold immediately readjust for the salary of next season? Just clarifying.

As for Amir, this is a question I'm always confused with, when you renounce rights and go under the cap, you lose the mle, then you extend a different player and go back over the cap, is that mle gone till next year?
